Broke PVZ by disabling 3d acceleration
I was playing the game when I got bored and wondered what would happen if I turned off 3D acceleration. Now, whenever I start the game it makes a few lines and minimizes itself. I have no idea how to fix this. Please help.

I disabled 3d acceleration as per someone's advice to increase resolution or something. Now it is just a black screen. I love this game, and I would like to play it again, but it is broke, as is yours

I know this is old, but follow these steps:

1. Open regedit (from start menu) and copy and paste this in the directory bar ~~

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SteamPopCap\PlantsVsZombies.

2. Change the values of the Is3D, ScreenMode and WaitForVSync keys from 0 to 1.

3. Start game. (3d acceleration should be enabled so you dont just sit at a black screen and can actually play the game again).

Sorry for replying to this old post, but after doing what this guy said, the next day, the game is working fine for me. Literally have no idea why it decided to fix itself today, but hopefully, it does the same thing for everybody else who has this problem.

In summary, If what he says didn't work, wait until the next day, and it fixes itself I guess. My conclusion is probably very flawed, but it worked for me.

There's one problem though, what do I do if there is no "Is3D" key in the registry? All there is is "ScreenMode" and "WaitForVSync"

I am using the EA Play via Game Pass version of the game, so this wasn't there at the specified location. I ended up using Revo Uninstaller to find the registry keys and removed them. After I reinstalled the game, it ended up working perfectly fine.
