PVZ1 completely breaks my computer if Windowed mode is on and 3d acceleration is off

Hi guys, so this issue has happened to me before, but ive fixed it in the past. So it only occurs if windowed mode is on and 3d acceleration is off, and ill describe it here. So i launch the game, and i see the game window but its entirely white, except for the minimize and close buttons of course. Then, 2 seconds later, my entire screen goes to black and i get this weird effect that i get green and purple pixels around everywhere (exactly what a screen looks like if youve broken it before) and then goes back to my desktop and to a white game window, and then repeats until eventually i get a blue screen of death that i forgot the error message to, but i think it partains to my GPU.
Now ive fixed this error before, and the fixes ive tried are deleting the popcap game folder in the registry editor, uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting all my popcap saves, restarting my pc, and i really dont know what to do now.

And yes, i do have all my drivers up to date.
