Help with zen garden

So when you use the zen garden, will it still run in the backround if you play the game or do you need to be on the actually zen garden to earn money?

You need to actually be in the Zen Garden screen, I believe. Though iirc, Stinky the Snail will auto-collect money even if you’re in other parts of the game. It’s been a while since I actually used him last, so I might be wrong.

In this version, you need to be in the garden (the mobile version allowed Stinky to pick up coins "while you were gone" but the desktop version doesn't).

However, you can leave the garden running in the background while you're doing something else. A garden full of happy plants and a Stinky fed on chocolate can give you a whole hour of coin collecting while you're working - that's worth thousands of coins. Just make sure you don't minimise the PvZ window; it needs to be open.
