Possible to escape death too easily

How come you can simply pause the game and exit to main menu to avoid death? It seems to trivialize the roguelike element of the game.

seriously though, I don't mind it, if you see it as cheating, don't do it. I didn't know about it until I read this, maybe I'll use it see if it makes me feel better about dying.
