HTC Vive on a Plane
Will there be any issue with me taking the Vive HMD, Base Stations, and Controllers onto a plane inside my carry-on luggage to fly internationally?

I've never had issues with it in carry-on, except each time security have taken it out to have a look - so I just check it now.

Thanks @Shen. I was concerned about it breaking in check-in so I was thinking I'd do carry on.

If you are bringing batteries make sure to bring them carry-on. You can't check the lithium-ion batteries but they are fine in your carry on (assuming the TSA folks know the rules- I brought a print out with me just in case).

I had them in this safe case and Airport security didn't even blink an eye:

They see stuff like this daily

This is really helpful. Has soothed my anxiety about bringing an unusual piece of tech through security.

Yeah I checked a kit on an international United flight successfully by placing the box that the kit shipped in one of those hypnotic plastic wrapping machines usually found in airline terminals. The plastic traps a little bit of air and creates some additional padding. The box got jostled a little bit, the corners rounded out a little, etc, but everything was a-ok inside. Make sure you take out the Lithium batteries and remove the giant "FLAMMABLE" stickers on the box though :D

Good idea about removing the flammable stickers :P

Was hoping this thread was about *using* it on a plane.

Yeah, I thought it was too, like snakes on a plane :)

But seriously; I put x3 HTC Vives in my under carriage including all the batteries (24) and no one blinked an eye.

+1 use a pelican case if you are going to check it.

the luggage carousel is a dangerous place for delicate items.
