hp reverb g2 controller mapping
Hi all

I make a VR player called Whirligig and I've recently being getting reports that the hp reverb g2 controllers don't work with it. I use the SteamVR SDK's and I've created mapping for Index, Oculus, Vive and WMR controllers and for the hp reverb g2 it defaults to the WMR controllers but they've changed the controllers and it doesn't work now.

How can I support these controllers? I can't even buy them as they aren't out in the UK yet.

Any ideas?

Phil

P.S.

Happy new year.

I believe the HP controllers are a whole new type. I think the original WMR controllers are classified as holographic_controller while the G2 controllers are hpmotioncontroller.

You can see this in the actions.json for SteamVR Home at least. For an example search for bindings_hp_reverb_g2.json on your system.

It feels like you're right. People who are reporting it seem to have no functality. Is there a way to map for a controller you don't have in Unity3D?

If not I'd really hope that Steam add this as I can't keep buying new controllers each time one is released. Besides the fact that the G2 Controllers aren't even out in the UK yet.

I think the best bet is to find a tester or user with said controllers and guide them to create bindings for you. I've done this a few times through Discord after similar reports where my hacked together bindings didn't actually work.

Edit: Otherwise the way to get other controllers into the interface is to install those drivers/runtimes, like the Oculus store or the WMR for SteamVR driver. Pretty sure that's how I discovered the HP bindings at all.

I have a G2 and controllers and have so many problems with games that I'm considering buying Index controllers to use with the G2 headset. I've had a little success plugging my HTC Vive back in and using the Vive wands.

If you have anything you want to test on Reverb G2 controllers, I'd be happy to help.
I'm a computer engineer and my expertise is in manufacturing, electric utilities, HMIs and PLCs but I've been known to write office software occasionally for maintenance department use. I haven't written a PC game though since 1997.

@Scot Thanks for the offer. I'm currently in contact with HP (well I'm trying to be in contact with them) so hopefully they'll help in some way. If I hit a dead end with them I'll let you know. Fingers crossed I can get an update in there soon as I don't want anyone who has purchased Whirligig to have problems. It's an inevitable issue though with so much hardware being developed at the moment though.
