Base Station not Powering On after Firmware Update
I've setup my Vive today, and one of my controllers was seemingly broken. Wireless pairing did not work, the blue light blinked slowly and not quick like the working one. It pairs after I connect it to my PC via the supplied USB cable but does not track whatsoever, and SteamVR says it's paired but not tracking (blinking icon).

I've spent the past 5 hours trying to fix it, so I decided to start SteamVR in it's beta branch. It told me that the base stations had missing firmware, so I updated one fine, but after updating the other one it no longer turns on at all. What's happening, and how can I fix this?

Thank you.

Not sure about the controller tracking problems prior to the base station firmware update failure, but you should be able to recover that base station by manually updating its firmware:

  1. Locate the firmware files: right-click on SteamVR in Steam and select Properties. Go to the Local Files tab. Click BROWSE LOCAL FILES... From the directory that opens up you should be able to drill down to tools\lighthouse\firmware\lighthouse_tx\archive\htc_2.0, inside that directory you will find a number of firmware images, the one you want is "lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-436-2016-09-20.bin"
  2. Plug the unpowered base station into your PC using a USB A to micro-B lead.
  3. Plug in the power lead to the base station while holding down the mode button on the back.
  4. The base station should enumerate as a mass-storage device called CRP_DISABLED (you can release the button once you see this).
  5. Inside the drive should be a file called "firmware.bin", delete it.
  6. Copy the firmware file located above onto the drive, there is no need to rename the file.
  7. Once the copy is complete, unplug the power.
  8. Plug the power back in to reboot the base station.

The base station should now boot up and operate correctly. If it does not, there is another thing you can try. Repeat the above steps but use the "lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-factory-reset-rescue-244.bin" image. When the base reboots it should rapidly flash green. (If the reset fails it will flash red). Once you see the flashing, power off the base station, it will not function normally until you replace the rescue image with normal firmware. Perform the firmware update again but use the firmware image instead of the rescue one.

Alright, yes that worked. But I still have the controller tracking problem. It still isn't working. I'll make a new thread later.

Hi, ive tried all those steps. Unfortunatly, it doesnt work. I manage to copy the factory reset file onto the device. I unplug it and replug it. But the device led stays dark. In the BAck of the device, near the USB Plug on the back, there is a small green led flashing rapidly. Does it mean anything? How long does it take for firmware to load? I waited half an hour but nothing happens...
Thanx in advance. Any suggestions are welcome

Same exact thing here. I have a LH2.0 RevA that failed with front LED blinking red. I tried both recovery firmwares but the front LED remains dark. I waited for very long and no feedback from the unit, the basestation remains dark. I do see some blinking green led way in the back, but I think its unrelated.

I made a copy of the original firmware before deleting it. Only by using the original firmware will the unit boot again, but I feel like the recovery firmwares are not even running nor "recovering" my basestation.

I need to find the proper recovery firmware for RevA 2.0 basestatinos - as 244 does not seem to work with my version of basestations!!

Please someone help
