WINDOWS UPDATE BROKE MY HTC VIVE --> NEED SOLUTION/ADVICE PLZ
Man does Windows update forced-feeded ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks…. 2 days ago all was working great. I have a dell inspiron 7577 gaming laptop with a GeForce 1060 max Q gpu and a HTC Vive, never had problems after the initial installation 5 months ago. BUT since i've installed an update from Windows update i had only problems, at first the HMD was working (steam vr room) but when i launched a game ( Talos Principle VR ) it was only displaying on the laptop monitor and not in the actual headset...i had a warning telling me that my main monitor and hmd wasn't connected to the same graphic card…..after some research i downloaded new drivers for the nvidia gpu and changed some settings on the Nvidia control panel to make sure that the game launched on the discrete graphic card…...BUT NOW my htc vive doesn't even light on, when i launch steam vr the screens of the headset stay black, like its not even reconized as a display.

How can i solve this problem ? Do someone have a simple solution ?

I really want to finish that game, i was almost at the ending and now i'm wasting some much time and the research when all was right before that windows update.

Thanks to the helpers

On my laptop I had to use the manufacturer (MSI) GPU driver package to have my HDMI port work at all when I got it, the miniDP worked regardless though. It can be that you upgrading your GPU driver with Nvidia drivers actually disabled your HDMI-port, if it works like my laptop even if it's a different brand.

Do you have any other monitor ports like a miniDP? If so you could hook the link box up miniDP->miniDP if you get a cable for that, not sure if they exist though...

Thanks BOLL, i m going to try it out, hope it works because i don't have miniDP
Please keep this up to date. I was using vive pro, working great, then after windows update my computer displays pre-os to my vive, but then refuses to display to my vive within the OS

Ok man , murdermohawk i had finally time to correct the problem.

The first one was that my headset was no more reconized by my computer by the hdmi port. So like BOLL suggested i download the nvidia graphic driver directlty from the manufacturer site ( DELL in my case , it was very simple , in the site it reconized your computuer automatically etc ). That solved the problem , cudos to BOLL, steam vr main room was displaying, but i couldn't play my game ( Talos principle VR) because it kept opening on the laptop screen.

The second thing to do was pretty simple finally. In the desktop by right clicking your can access the Nvidia Control Panel, in there click on the 3d parameters item (the third one i think) and in there you have two tabs , one for global parameters and the other for program's specific parameters, go to the second one and search for the game or the program that was not working, if it's not on the list you can browse and add it, once you have it selected just under you have an option to choose the chipset on which it will launch, MAKE SURE to select the NVIDIA chipset there ( in my case TALOS was set on the integrated gpu ), just apply the correction and you will be done.

All it's working fine now
