If you set controls to mouse/keyboard, you can steer fine with the 360 Gamepad. However, you can't use the face buttons for some reason.
It's when you change to "Gamepad" in the menu that the crazy spinning happens. (But hey, at least you can use the face buttons!)
The game reads the Gamepad as keyboard input. The D-Pad (and left analog stick) = Up, Down, Left, Right as expected.
RT=Spacebar
Y=Y
A=Left Alt (no idea why)
Start=I don't remember, but I used it for Afterburner.
Select=Escape
It doesn't seem to recognize any other bouttons.
It seems to run fine enough until I get another beloved joystick. I will then suddenly rever to my 3-5 year old self playing this game on Windows 95 and 98.
To run correctly in DOSBox make the following changes:
Change cycles=auto to cycles=max
Change memsize=16 to memsize=24
Change timed=true to timed=false
Change rate and oplrate to match the frequencies set in Sound Options in-game.
Leave all other settings at their defaults.

The act of setting timed to false should correct gamepad/joystick issues.
Where do I go to make these changes?
