Some other tricks:
As soon as you see opponents on low health, bump them into the wall with your spikes. Be aggressive. Shoot only when you know you will hit. If there is one left without a lot of health. Wait for that car and kill it. Ramming it with spikes. Make sure to get the reaper bonus money every now and then. Always pickup big cash or big repair for the end-race extra bonus. Petrol is extremely hard to win by just racing so let no one pass and go for maximum damage. Use mines strategically. I know the exact AI race paths for all tracks. Learn that and use it to your advantage with mines. Bump disabled cars into the middle of the road even when you are 2nd. In the next lap sometimes AI will suicide on that car or get confused.
DUDE THATS NUTS. 50-60 RACES!??!? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Played easy until i had max upgrades on the Vagabond, then started to play MEDIUM with mines and sabotage. Would try kill everyone, or at least tried to finish second.
When I had enough money, I bought the Shrieker. I did a few EASY sessions to build up enough cash to get max engine & tires. I tried to either finish without damage or kill everything, depending on the track. Sometimes both!
Each higher tier car gives better bonuses. Sentinel/Shrieker is easily accessible and can boost your cash flow pretty quickly.
When I had max engine/tires, i'd bounce between HARD and MEDIUM, depending who appeared on the roster. If any Deliverators appeared, i just went to MEDIUM. Mines and sabotage as often as money would permit me.
When I saved enough, I bought the Deliverator. Did a few sessions on EASY to build up some money for tires. After +2 tires, I started doing MEDIUM. Once I got to +3 engine and +3 tires and had a little extra for mines, i started doing HARD.
I usually try to kill everything, unless i see that i can't, then rush to first place. But I always tried to kill whoever was in the #1 on the leaderboard (in my case it was Sam), to stop him from widening the gap.
Finished the game with maxxed Deliverator and $50,000 extra cash.
Try to hit those bonuses as often as you can (kill everyone, finish with 2% or less damage, win 3 races in a row).
My fastest "Speed makes me dizzy" with no restarts is 12 races.
Petrol In My Veins: 43
I Live to Ride: 22
Speed Makes Me Dizzy: 25
My optimal strategy is this. In the beginning optimize money, in the end optimize points. Never go to Easy races, do only Medium and Hard. You might have to do couple of easy ones on Petrol In My Veins, as that level is soooo much harder than the other ones. After playing with it, I Live to Ride felt as easy as Speed Makes Me Dizzy. So, do only Medium races from the start. Try to win your very first race and you can upgrade straight to Dervish. Upgrade the engine to max, tires and armor don't need to be maxed. Then upgrade to Sentinel, same with upgrades. With Sentinel do Medium races until you have enough money and then immediately upgrade to Deliverator. Always take sabotage, as it helps you to beat opponents that are way above your level, as you can kill them before they run away. It also helps with killing everyone for bonus. Maximize the bonuses, try to always get both of them. As said, in the beginning it is pivotal to optimize money, so you can get Deliverator as fast as you can. It is very important to kill the championship leader every time so you catch them faster. The final race agains the Adversary is by far the easiest, you simply get rocket fuel and speed from the start. He will never catch you. With Speed Makes Me Dizzy it is possible to even almost lap him lol.
It was really weird with these playthroughs that with Speed Makes Me Dizzy I was way behind after getting Deliverator, whereas with I Live to Ride everything went pretty much perfectly, I don't think it's possible to get below 22 races without cheating. Petrol In My Veins is very tough, but I think I should be able to get under 40 races as with this playthrough I made some suboptimal decisions and also died (lol) once in an Easy race against no other than Bogus Bill (lolX2).
Some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (nice nick btw mate):
That score is not possible, not even with drool where you get infinite money after the first race.
Try to beat these scores guys! 😄
I was doing easy races at first and trying to take 0 damage even coming 2nd as long as i don't take damage (2% or less) i wasn't spending extra cast and instead gaining cash. I didnt bother with upgrades until last car and only sab and bombs with the 3rd tier car
That is very impressive. Almost to the point of suspicion. :D You did not play as Duke Nukem?
Yeah, I think variance seems to be very high as usually you have to get over 200 points to win. I.e., this run would've taken 10 races more.
Ddi you really not upgrade the first cars at all? For me it feels that driving without any tire upgrades makes it impossible to win races (or take 0% for that matter).
My record with Petrol is 32 races and I have 34 and 36 as well, so that level is repeatable, I have noticed a really weird thing – that the game seems to scale the difficulty based on your success in the beginning of the campaign. If I get the best start (winning the first race on Medium), I have not gotten the best score. It has been the not perfectly started runs that have yielded the best results in the end. I am not sure if the game really scales like that, but it seems to be so.
32 is pretty amazing, If the top dogs didn't get to many points you probably also would have gotten under 30 too as you are limited by how many points you can get per round. I usually do 35+ as late game i find it hard to kill the cars and still win on all maps the games rng variance gives it a lot of repeatability. but yeah I remember people getting like under 25 back in the day.
About using "cheating" or "glitches", I'd also add using Duke Nukem's avatar (since you'd get that HUGE damage reduction advantage), and also no skipping races after you manage to kill somebody, particularly if that somebody was the #1 rank (I think it was a glitch or something, if you killed somebody in a race, they wouldn't get any points until the next race you'd participate in, meaning that skipping races after killing somebody = the ones you killed wouldn't get any points)
My record as a teen was also around 43/44, and I managed to pull it a few times. I remember I had a specific tactic, like not buying all the cars (IIRC i went from vagabond to dervish, then from dervish to shrieker, and then from shrieker to deliverator) and only upgrade the deliverator to maximum, no other cars. only take a few tires and engine upgrades, while also avoid armor upgrades until deliverator. and also always take mines+sabotage, and never spikes, rocket, and avoid the loanshark like the plague.
i also tried to get all the fastest laps records in every single race, for each and every single car. it was really, like freaking really hard on some races (the rocky ones) with the fastest cars, since some roads were excessively narrow. sometimes i had weird records with shrieker or wraith having a better time than deliverator, lol.
I think 60-70 is maybe possible with save scumming (reloading when 3rd or 4th all the time, and maybe also if too many seconds vs wins).
Vogabond winning medium races on petrol in my veins? Beating cars 2 classes above it, love to see that, when I tried I got lapped. But can be done with dervish. By the time I saved enough cash with dervish on medium races to buy the top car, jane honda was over 400 points, and the 2 behind her were almost 400. This might have been unlucky as I have never seen them that high before, I am guessing I wasnt paying attention and they were in almost every race. Once I had top car, I did hard only, and all seconds and first, save scummed when below that, and took a LOT of races to catch up with those scores. I think I ended up around 70 something races.
With petrol in my veins enemy cars seem to have a LOT of hitpoints, on I live to race or whatever the medium one is I can usually destroy the car that is sabotaged, on petrol in my veins there is little point sabotaging as they always survive, but the rocket nitro is very useful.
12 races would require probably only doing hard and winning every race, very hard to believe, especially when the tip is to destroy everything, so go straight on hard with a vogabond and blow up 3 deliverators. :)
