So is this the same universe as Deadly Premonition?

Probably not. Though there are some similaties and analogues (like real blod / red seeds).
But Forrest K. - is just a running "gag" or something I think. Character with that name appeared in all access games games .

Probably not. Swery says he likes to use some of the same characters between games as if they were "actors" of a sort playing different roles each time. However, even the plot seems to be paralell to DP, such as a mysterious red substance being at the center of cases and the loss of a protagonist's loved one to it.

Ah, alright. A bit of a shame as I liked the DP universe, but it would also be kind of disappointing to know such a big plot twist ahead of time.

I dont think that Forrest Kaysen has the role in D4 that you may think he have because of Deadly Premonition. As mentioned Forrest Kaysen is a trademark character from Swery and he already had his big moment so i think Swery wouldnt do that again. By the way, David Young was the name of the FBI agent in Deadly Premonition first but got changed.

Yea it's kind of a dimision thing like Final Fantasy, so you will see many types of Kaysens for Swery as much as Cids for FF.

I don't think it's possible from a legal standpoint. However, SWERY seems to have made it his life mission to stick as many hints into this game as possible. Hinting isn't stating outright, after all.

Different universe, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some extradimensional crossover ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in D4 season 2 or Deadly P 2. If nothing else, there's a ton of references to deadly p in d4.

There are "Red Seeds" in the bath tub, said to be a former memento. But i'd put that down to Swery being a bit of a trickster, playing a game on us.

To be fair, even though it's extremely likely for all of the DP references to be nothing more than just that--if you really think about it, all of SWERY's previous games with FK on it could still be in the same world as D4. Spy Fiction and DP have different settings, but nothing suggests it can't be the same guy sporting different looks. And hey, there's the whole Red Seeds thing, so who knows.

And don't forget the map in DP with multiple FK dolls across it, that could signal that there's a bunch of them all over the country.
