Payment methods
I am dissapointed with the limited payment options, i dont want to use a CR nor paypal for security reasons, and seeing its pre-order even direct debit seems fair, the product is not shipped until april, or later ;))

Furthermore I REALLY cannot understand how Valve does not have the pre-order form directly here, i want my order linked to my steam account, and seeing its been hyped here for a year, bit puzzled. The htc pre-order page is VERY basic and simple.. And yes they ran out of stock already ;))

1) It's not a Valve product. It's an HTC product that has been built in partnership with Valve based on the OpenVR / SteamVR platform. This is the same as how the Steam Machines are presented on Steam.

2) why would you want the order page to be more complex? It's a very clean and fluid process that worked really well during my check out.

3) I'm not sure why you are implying that because the device being sold on HTC's website -vs- through Steam somehow it wouldn't be "out of stock already"? That makes no sense.

4) It's not out of stock already, the stock available for shipment in April is sold out. You can still go on the site right now and pre-order it for shipment in May.

Thx, trust me stock for now is out, but thats a good sign.

My main point was i do not want to use a CR or paypall and yes i do have the money.

As for the order page ur tottally right, its simple, maybe thats why they could not add advanced and more modern payment methods probably...

.. Sorry forgot to add, ur dumbest comment was about the product not being owned by Valve.. U think Valve owns call of duty, farcey etc?

Valve is a distribution tool, a great one even, love it. And distribution means distribution

What type of payment methods were you thinking of? Debit Cards, Credit Cards and PayPal provide a good coverage.

On steam i use Ideal which is in my country main stream and preferred. Direct debit in case of a pre-order seems indeed also realistic

I just went to my local HTC country site and their phones i can buy with above said options... When i click the vive it takes me to this irish site though... So it seems htc has not implemented the vive (pre-order) in their local sites, which then also explains the shipping cost.

It just does not make any sense to me. When you want to order a bMW in the UK you also are not referred to the german site instead and then get charged for the boat trip of your new german car...

Direct debit (i.e. account to account) isn't typically used for e-commerce. Credit card makes the most sense, since they can do the authorization beforehand and charge your card later.

From the HTC site:
PayPal Users: Funds will be withdrawn once you receive your order confirmation notification
Credit Card Users:Your card will be validated on submission and authorised shortly before shipments start. Complete settlement of payment on your credit card will occur upon confirmation that your Vive has shipped

Thx.. Paypal i do not know, heard bad stuff about it so avoided it and cannot tell. As for CR, the authorisation process reserves the money, so u paid.. Trust me.

In any case this goes beyond the whole point. I think i made it clear that CR and paypall are no option so no point in discussing these. Also HTC locally offers all the otger options, just not for the vive and that's a mistake that is costing them business.

Direct debit is not offered. And as for the shipping cost, last year i remember HTC asked for email registartion to keep updated. So they must have had a pretty good sense how many orders 'per country'. Produce the stuff, ship it to the various countries, and we buy it. Simple. Htc can call me and i swear i can do'm some great cost savings as they did not think this through well enough

You are wrong. They will charge when they ship. And no, money are not reserved in this case.

The authorization is not the same as being billed. It simply reserves the available credit, but the actual processing of the transaction does not go through until later. Furthermore, they are only authorizing credit cards shortly before shipping, so if shipping isn't expected for a couple months, they won't even be performing an authorization.

So no, you have not paid. Trust me.
