HTC Vive

HTC Vive

unable to pair one controller
controllers sued to work fine, then I let the battery drain and now I'm only able to get one to pair (and I swear it has not always been the same one, I added to tierap to the one that works to keep track.

things tried:
update firmware
go into developer and unpair all devices (followed by a reboot)

behaviour:
when they are both plugged into my computer I see 2 green but flashing icons for controllers.
When I unplug them:
good one stays green icon and has a green indicator light
bad one has a grey icon and a blue indicator light

when plugged in
the good one has a red light (untill it goes blue)
the bad one just has a red light (not turning blue)

When I try to pair it never finds the controller, and after a while the controller stops blinking and turns back off.

(I have swapped ports)

Both do turn white while charging, so from what I can tell that part works.

Again... :/
Here is copy paste...

I figured out that controller connecting problem... insteab of going that "SteamVR > Settings > Devices > Pair Controller" tab it is just needed to hoover mouse over grayed controller in SteamVR window (the one that shows headset, controllers and lighthouses on green) and left click on grayed controller... it gives option to repair just the one... So klick that and start controller repairing from controller that you want to connect (one at the time) (was that like holding down menu and system buttons...) and woila both controllers paired and workin... and wont even disconnect anymore ;)

Hope this helps :)

yup tried that, and read the orogoanl post of that. It won't pair, they don't detect each other. Pairing times out and then you can retry while you watch the blinky blue light on the controller. Once you retry after a bith the blinky light turns off as the controller gives up.

ooh change, this morning both just turn off (one green, one blue) without ever showing up.

Ok, got 1 controller to pair again (the different one than last night, yes I marked them)

this morning one controler had out of date software (last night they were both up to date)

Had those problems in start... it may be that there is many filmware updates... blug those both controllers to pc and check all filmware updates couple of times and reboot SteamVR every time.. hope you get Your Vive working :) this device is amazing :)

oh I know, I've had it working. it just stopped working.

I tried the reset, I not have 0 working controllers
blue lights, but icons stry grey. Plugging them into the pc leaves the icons grey.

The following steps DID NOT GET ME CLOSER BUT FURHTER FROM MY GOAL.

Hold down the trigger, menu button, trackpad button, and grip buttons
on the controller (everything except the system button).
While holding the buttons, plug your controller into your computer
with a micro USB cord.
Wait for five seconds and release the buttons. Ignore the new storage
device that appears and unplug the micro USB cord to reset.

I made the system forget all my devices (again) and I got one controller paired after that. It did for a moment want to update some version on the other controller, but when it started it decided it was fine.

I did manage to get both controllers to be visible in VR, but I had to have it wired on USB to my computer (15' cable). the controller that is "working" wirelessly tends to float around and vanish regularly.

I am starting to fear that your controllers are fine but receiver in HMD that connects to controllers is faulty... :/

RMA. This is a hot mess.
TequilaSaisYes May 27, 2016 @ 7:57am
I has worked :/

and to be honest I'm not even sure where to start the RMA process as there are 2 companies involved. I started on the steam end as I heard good things about them :/

I'll update as I find out.

operational again.

So there is a magic comand line thing to run and it is not expected to work the first time. It is detialed here https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4kyf66/wireless_receiver_not_working_after_failed/

this took 3 tries

to get my controllers to pair I had to string an extra usb cable into the play area and plug the controllers in, they would show up, I could unplug them and they would stay paired.

I never actually did the pairing with the two buttons in the end, just the pairing using the long cable.

When I reset the headset they were unpaired again. When I rebooted after re-paiting they stayed paired.

In 15 min of gameplay I did nto encounter any (abnormal) issues. more "testing" this weekend.

false allarm, it is not working, it now sees 3 controllers :/
TequilaSaisYes May 29, 2016 @ 5:23pm
after reboot, both controllers becam unpaired (green and quickly tuned off)

the 3rd controller vanished from the console, both of the light houses re-paired themselves and became green.

running a cable from my pc I was able to pair one controller; so back to one green and one bleu :/

going to re-initialize the thing again and then unplugging every other usb device and hope it it ok. atleast all my other devices are on one hub.
