Recommendations for base station stands?
Anyone got some recommendations for lightstands, poles and stuff to attach the Vive base stations to? I'm going to be moving soon and then moving shortly after that and I don't want to have to drill so many holes in the walls. Plus I feel like it would be more stable on a lightstand.

Potentially something that can reach 8 or 9 ft at max.

Anyone?

The sands I have are currently sold out on Amazon where I bought them but here is what I have.

I bought 2 of these ball joints. http://www.amazon.com/Bracket-Holder-Mount-Tripod-Camera/dp/B00MLWSYB2/ref=pd_sim_421_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=419Sw4FW8kL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL320_SR320%2C320_&refRID=11TCASBHKQJRG2BP1VWK

And this light stand pair http://www.amazon.com/Neewer®-Studio-Portrait-Product-Photography/dp/B00L4YR0BS?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

Total cost was less than $35 shipped. This light stand also has a small footprint.

You're awesome! Thanks. Actually I think I made this topic awhile ago haha and the same link to those stands and ball joints came up. Dont remember if it was you or not, but yeah I really really like those ones. Hopefully they become available again soon. They seem perfect. Maybe I can find them on another site. B&H perhaps.

I'm thinking about getting a set of 86" shower tension rods and securing them vertically in the room's corners. My room height is more than that, so I'm going to get a solid piece of wood or a cinder block to put under it for the extra height (put the block in a black pillowcase, and it won't look bad). Then, getting a set of clip on camera mounts to secure the lighhouses on the poles. Should allow the setup to be wherever you want, and take up as little space as possible.

Clips:

Rods:

Total is about 42 bucks... excluding whatever you need to give the rods the extra length. Rods longer than 86" are hard to find and rather expensive.

They do have 108" rods at amazon for 25 bucks... if you would rather pay a bit more for a single floor to ceiling rod. My ceiling is 100", so I might go for these.

Yeah ive heard about the shower curtain rod method too, but I'd be concerned about mobility. The cool thing with the lightstand is that it's pretty easy to move if you needed to move quickly.

Aren't lightstands wasting much space because of their feet?
They are not that stable either. I would recommend poles, they are also cheaper.

True, but Im pretty sure they are stable. They have to be somewhat stable...at least stable enough to accomodate the weight of the base stations if they are used for those massive lights.

Stable compared to wall mounts or poles. The Lighthouse tracking is very sensible.

Yeah I have the base stations attached to a wall right now, and its surprisingly stable despite the fact that one of the base stations isnt even fully attached to the wall haha

Obviously the light stand takes up more room than a curtain rod and curtain rods cannot be used anywhere that has higher than a 9' ceiling. Stability is not an issue with either. I plan on using my Vive in various locations so the lightstands is a better option for me.

In my apartment living room the base stations are mounted to the walls, in my office one is on a light stand and the other is on a 6" tripod on my window sill, at my house they are both on Lightstands. I am considering buying a curtain rod for my office because the light stand footprint is too large for the spot behind my desk.

Stupid question, but if I were to take the curtain rod route. How do you keep the curtain rod standing? Because the lightstands have the advantage of well...stands.. but a curtain rod is just a rod. What do you use to keep it from falling over?

i got myself some wire shelf poles in a 8 by 8 space with camera mounts at the top

Yes it is! Have you ever seen a shower curtain rod before? Did you notice how it was placed in the shower? Now imagine that instead of being between two walls it's wedged between the floor and the ceiling!

It's not a curtain rod. It's a shower tension rod. Check the posts I put up. They don't mount. THey extend, and then twist to become longer, with springs to hold them in place. The rods have to be longer than the height of your room.
