HTC Vive

HTC Vive

Vive setup program pausing in download and not continuing.
The Vive Setup program I got from the HTC website doesn't seem to want to finish the 'Vive software' download in the "1.1 Install software" screen. It got to 11%, then completely stopped.

Do I neeeeeed to go through it? If so, how can I give it a kick in the pants to download the rest?

In my attempts to get it to continue, I plugged in the Vive. It was auto-detected, and windows grabbed some kind of driver for it. Will this cause troubles? After I did it, Steam prompted me to grab the SteamVR download.

While the thought of a software-based setup walkthrough is nice, a paper-based version is handy for situations like this.

You don't need to use it. For a while the page was down and support said it was correupt. I think the only thing I've found so far that you NEEEEEED it for is to setup your phone to work with it. Other than that I haven't installed it once and I'm playing all the things.

You do need SteamVR (I believe) or at least, that's what I installed. That'll get you up and running.

Well, I've managed to get SteamVR, so that's good.

The Vive turns on and displays a virtual environment. The controllers will show up and work in the environment. Everything seems just peachy. ...except Room Setup doesn't detect the headset or controllers, even though SteamVR detects them just fine. I even did a firmware update that was needed.

I managed to get past the pestering for the room setup by going to the developer section in settings and doing a quick setup for standing.

I can probably get by without the tutorial and room setup stuff, but if I get a place that I can use the room scale in, I'll have to figure out how to get those working.

Currently downloading stuff to try. I'll see if those work just fine, too. Hope they launch okay.

Edit: Bah. Tried Tilt brush, and it didn't detect the headset at all. Crud.

Did you find a solution?

Unfortunately not. I went through the trouble of going through the HTC troubleshooting process. I wound up having to send in the headset, even though it was completely fine, hardware-wise. Apparently a software problem? I suppose it's a good idea to go through the HTC process... but...

Unfortunately, when I got it back, it wasn't being recognized. :steamsad: It's not installing the lighthouse drivers now.
I know I should go through troubleshooting again, but the experience was a bit discouraging. Maybe I should wait until building a new computer. I just don't know.

If you do send it in, make sure to remove the facepad too. You won't get it back if you forget.
