HTC Vive

HTC Vive

Venting the Vive...
I do really like the Vive ...and after some problems at the beginning*
I really really love the experience .... but I sweat like swine under the HMD which causes all lenses (my glasses and the Vive) to fog up.
Especially in room scale games. ...
I know it is designed to block out light from outside .... but why the heck does this thing not have air vents or even fans to keep the face somewhat cool.

*= desync of the lighthouses till I used the cord ... vision out of focus until I corrected the lenses to fit my eyes ... and figured that the headset only stay really in focus when worn in correct position ... means not too low or too high.

I have the same problem, one of those guys who sweat a fair amount. I use the narrow face cushion so it has a bigger gap under my nose. It's better when I play race or flight sim since I can also put a small usb fan and let it blow at my face which increase a bit more air flow inside the HMD.

But I do agree, it's a design flaw. I bet they'll fix it in V2.

Yes I have fan runing on seated position, have a fan in front of you where you monitor is and blow fresh air in your face, that will keep HMD cool. For standing position again have a fan standing in front and blow air in to you, lift up your HMD unce in few minutes to let air flow.
There is some areas on HMD to make holes and let air flow but dont want to try. Its on the sides and that could be drilled.

Power drill, 2mm drill bit and some blue tack should do the trick

OK, tried that ... apart from it doesn't seem to me made to taken off on regular basis (Velcro did come off the HMD) my face dosen't fit at all anymore ... so I went back to the normal.
I probably try some USB fans soon.

Did you actually tried that?
If so, can you share pictures?
(not ruining my HMD, which I barely could afford in first place, on an untested method)

It's a problem we're all having.

I'm surprised there aren't any USB powered fan mods for the Vive yet, there's a spare USB port on the Vive HMD that could easily power a small fan, and with a bit of handiwork it wouldn't be too hard to design a mount and vent system for it.
