Vive will only work if you have the whole kit - the sensors, the headset and the controllers. All are contained in the box, and the box is $1150 CDN plus applicable taxes and shipping.
If you're looking for a cheaper and less robust VR experience, the Oculus is available for a few hundred dollars less. Sitting in a chair with an XBox controller is not my idea of "VR", though, so be sure you know what you're buying.
EDIT: I've tied both, and the Oculus headset is lightier/sleeker, but with a narrower field of view. I also found light bleed and internal reflections to be a problem with the Oculus headset. Vive's headset is clunkier, but the wider FOV and better seal around the face make for superior immersion. YMMV.
Lol - yeah, that's kind of what the whole post was about. Also, people in Canada buying from US retailers often face hidden charges at the border or otherwise. I wanted to let fellow Canadians know what to expect if ordering this system. Yankees need not apply ;)
