That doesn't sound like it would be the cause since they are completely separate components.
If the controller and headsets are constantly disconnecting then it's probably the base stations to blame since the base stations are responsible for if the headset and controllers can be seen and activated. Might want to see if something is blocking the base stations. The maximum distance is 16ft and the minimum recommended height is 6 ft.
I stand corrected:
https://m.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4i7xf6/psa_vive_controllers_use_bluetooth_and_will/
Apparently because the Vive uses Bluetooth (even when Bluetooth isn't being used for phone applications) it conflicts with 2.4ghz wifi. The link above suggests changing the frequency of the router to 5 ghz if possible or move the Vive outside the area of 2.4ghz interference.
how bad is it if your router broadcasts both a 2.4ghz and 5ghz connection simultaneously? any ideas? will the light houses or anything the vive does interfere with 5ghz at all?
the 5ghz seems insanely unreliable on it's own from what i can tell anyway, literally if i pick up my phone and walk to the next room it has issues, but at least when it does work it's insanely fast.
i think this is how 5ghz is intended to work however, i was told it's an extremely short range wifi to the point of line of sight to the router actually matters, but the trade off is it's not much slower than gigabit ethernet.
I'm a bit surprised you have a problem tho, I have like 2 Xbox controller wireless receivers running at 2.4ghz, wireless keyboard running 2.4ghz, logitech harmony running at 2.4ghz, got a router right next to it. With wireless signals coming from my PS4/PS3/etc etc. And the Vive works perfectly fine. Is there something special about your setup that's causing this?
From the way I understand it, because the Vive's bluetooth uses a frequency of 2.4ghz, then it will affect the already slower speed of 2.4ghz....but I also have a dualband router and have no problems with interferance from the Vive from what I can tell...I don't use my wi-fi often, but my roommates do and I haven't heard any complaints.
thanks for responding, i am still not sure i have the (somewhat) new router properly configured 100% also. :)
