My computer suddenly won't recognize the Vive.
I've just tried starting my Vive after a long while, and suddenly my PC won't recognize it. There's no light in the headset LEDs, and SteamVR can't connect to it.

I've tried power-cycling the link-box, reset the SteamVR USB-devices, changed USB-ports, and tried rebooting the headset, which only gives the error:

"Service Status: Failed".

Is my headset just dead? If anyone has any tips; please help.

I've had the same issue happen to me today. I've had my Vive for well over a year and all of a sudden I have an error 108 Headset not detected. I rebooted the headset and it says service status failed. I've tried all of the troubleshooting procedures that I can find on steam and on the web. Anyone out there have a solve for this?

To force Vive driver reinstall , unplug the Vive Link box from your computers USB and HDMI whilst it is on , reboot your computer , then wait a few minutes, plug them both back in whilst the computer is on, this process can take a few attempts, so just repeat those steps a few times if it doesn't work first time, you will know it has worked if you see a driver installing in your computer system tray, if that doesn't work use another USB 3.0 port , then update all your devices firmware if you haven't used Steam VR in a while update that too.

GL hope this helps.

Were you playing a lot of sprint vector or any sweat inducing games?

The issue was with my PC. It wasn't just my headset tha wasn't being recognized, but other gaming controllers and input device. No drivers could be loaded. I think what happened was a specific driver called the USB User Input driver somehow wouldn't populate anymore. I couldn't even do a search for it. So it had to reset my PC which was pretty much like doing a soft re-installation of the OS. After that, I was able to manually install the USB input driver by opening up connecting the device, opening up the device troubleshooter from the control panel, and manually searching for the driver. Auto search would not help.

I had the same problem. Running steam as administrator worked for me!
