HTC Vive

HTC Vive

Oculus VS Vive
The Oculus Rift is much much cheaper than the Vive and from what i can see on the store you can play VR games wit hthe Rift on Steam. So why buy the Vive instead of the Rift?

Better room-scale/tracking, no hassle of running USB cabling for sensors, more comfortable for glasses wearers...

Those are my reasons anyway.

Its cheaper for a reason and it isnt "much much cheaper anymore"... Once the summer sale is over it will be even closer in price.

For now it's 250€ more expensive than the Rift. It's a lot of money. The Rift right now is at 450€ and the Vive 700€.

Keep in mind, for proper room-scale for the Rift, you're going to want a 3rd camera, which adds to the price of the Rift setup.

Admittedly though even with that factored in, the Rift is a much more attractive price right now than the Vive.

With the new price of vive its absolutely the headset to get once again. It was hard recomending it over rift when the rift was half the price but now vive is once again the one to get.

The rift is still at the summer sale... it wont last.
Because HTC/Valve's marketing of their price reduction has been disastrous, what with everywhere else in the world having to pay in the region of $200 more than in the U.S (in Canada for instance it's $700 or so and until recently in Australia was $1299). I'm happy with the Rift and Touch, and will simply get my sister to send the Vive to me from the U.S.

Did you tried both? I'm wondering if the Vive has better image quality or something?

I doesn't matter if it last 1 day, It's still a sale and everybody can buy it. Anyone looking into it now can buy it at that price. I'm asking why i should pay that much more money to get the Vive. If something is worth paying 270€ more ( found the Rift cheaper on Amazon UK Storre) then what is it? I'm asking a simple question and you're acting like i said that you have a small ding dong.
Well a lot of games on Steam are compatible with Rift. The only game I'm concerned about is Fallout 4 VR which will only be compatible with Vive at the time of launch. The Oculus is better value for money, though bear in mind that if you want room scale you'll probably have to invest in another Rift sensor. It will still be cheaper than the Vive with even that factored-in however.
$599 is such a brilliant marketing ploy, tho!
Look! Under $600!!
there are cartboxes vr thingies for the phone and software to play steamvr games on it and other additional options to have motion controls, all for less then 300$, its cheaper then oculus, why wont you go for that?

Overly sensitive much? :steamsalty:

I merely gave my opinion... get over it. You also quoted me wrong.
Indeed Vive has room scale out of the box, and generally has better build quality. You've got to weigh the pros and cons yourself really.

The vive and rift are pretty near equals now. Controllers are better (imo) on Rift. Room scaling in the recent 2.0 software release (well maybe 2-3 months ago now) on Rift have made tracking amazing. A lot of rumors about needing a third sensor for Rift are completely unfounded (check out google and youtube, easy to setup a room and full 360 with two sensors).

Vive though does accomodate for glasses wearers. Rift does no such thing.

My main reason for going Rift over Vive was who supports it and where does it's money from from. HTC is in partnership with Steam mostly, which is fine. But Steam doesn't control what game developers do - and really, thats where all VR shines, how the developer makes the game great. That being said, Rift is supported by Facebook dollars which means they will keep up, keep even, or sometimes be slightly ahead of Vive.

When it comes down to it, Vive a year ago was ahead. As of today, they are even - but Rift Touch controllers are downright better, that won't stay this way for much longer, Vive will catch up. Competition is and investment dollars are making both great.

One can get away with only 2 sensors for the Rift, but from available tracking data there will be more tracking loss than an equivalent Vive setup. 3 cameras is needed to bring the Rift on par with the Vive.
