HTC Vive

HTC Vive

Room Setup for HTC Vive is telling me that the Headset and controllers are off.....
My Vive arived a couple of hours ago (about 8 hours to be more precise) and i have had no look as to finding a solution via our lovely google search engine.....
Problem is:
SteamVR is telling me that my headset and 2 controllers are on and tracking.
However i can't launch any games because i need to do the Room Setup.
Fair enough i thought, and i did that.... But nothing happened.
It kept saying that my controllers were off and so was my headset.
So to be clear:
SteamVR says my headset and controllers are fine.
Room Setup says my headset and controllers are off.

If anyone knows how to fix this i would be very happy to hear it.
I might have overlooked something in my search on the webs but after 8 hours i became desperatte and came (for the first time) to the discussion section here in steam.
Again, if anyone can help that would be great.

Did you do the firmware updates? I got mine last week and that was the first thing I had to do.

There are a few things that you can try. First is to restart the PC; sometimes the drivers do not finish installing without a restart. You should also join the SteamVR beta and then use SteamVR to check and upgrade the firmware for the HMD, controllers and lighthouses.

Installed drivers and restarted my pc.
Now joined the SteamVR beta and tried using SteamVR but it gave me this message:
Some files we need for SteamVR are missing, please check your SteamVR installation. (checked file integrity and it was succesfull) but the same message pops up when i restart it.
Can't check for firmware updates because of that.

Edit:
Ran Steam as Admin fixed the error message. There was no updateable firmware to be found and it the beta aswell i got the same problem of it saying that my controllers and headset are off

Hmm, I would try uninstalling SteamVR, then download Vive Setup from http://www.vive.com/us/setup/ and see if that installation route works on your PC.

Uninstalled steamVR and the original vive setup then re downloaded and installed the Vive Setup from your link. Tried checking for updates and the same problem of headsett off controllers off is still persuing.
I opt out of the beta to check there and now when i launch it it says the following:
Failed to initialized for unknown reasons. (error: hmd not found presence failed 126)

I should have asked this before: what are the specs of your PC? Is it a laptop?

BTW, these are the troubleshootings steps for error 126: https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithGameIssue/?appid=250820&issueid=374&nodeid=3&return_nodeid=71

Try the steps in the link I posted in my previous comment. If this doesn't work go through the troubleshooting steps in https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithGame/?appid=250820

There you will also find an option to raise a support request if none of the steps work.

Make a new account with no symbols in it. (username: Damiën didn't work and thus i was having this problem, made a second: Kilrin, and that did the trick for me) Don't need to switch anything over from your other account either it's litterally just the user name. Let me know if that fixes it (Also, when i say username i am talking about my microsoft user name. So make a new user for your pc that doesn't have any symbols. Just letters)

if this helps anybody I had to manage addons which automatically blocked software that was vital to being able to run steamvr

the program I unblocked had a name like htc_rr and room setup was able to see my vive again

hopefully my problem ends up helping somebody else fix theirs
