TP Cast cable issue
Hi

This isn't so much a request for help as a caveat when thinking about buying the TPCast (although if someone can give me a solution, that would be great).

I have had a TPCast for about 10 months now. About two months ago the screen suddenly went blank while I was playing. I took off the headset and the screen was blank but it was still tracking. Anyway, turns out that the problem was with a short, proprietary HDMI cable (2A / 2B) connecting the top receiver to the Vive. It appears that this cable had cracked.

I spoke the supplier and the tech support guy immediately knew what I was talking about. It seems that this is a known problem. The TPCast has only been available since October last year so this suggests that it's a design flaw.

Now, this doesn't seem like a major problem but no-one sells these cables (including TPCast) so the only solution is to send it back under warranty, which I did. I told them that all I needed was a replacement cable and they found me one. Hey, presto! It worked again. Unfortunately, the cable they sent me had obviously had a fair amount of use and lasted less than two months. My TPCast is now, once again, winging its way back to the retailer for repair/replacement.

I did try using other short HDMI cables as a fix but the proprietary one has a very unusual shape where it plugs into the HMD (the same shape as the HDMI cable supplied with the Vive) and without that precise shape it won't fit, or at least not without me cutting a hole in the case (which I am less than keen on, particularly as the hole would have to go through the head-strap hanger).

I have spoken to the retailer and suggested that they get a supply of these cables in but so far that has fallen on deaf ears. By my reckoning, this problem will see my device going back for replacement at least three times before the two-year warranty is finished.

Be warned. It's a fantastic device, but this is a serious issue.

I was able to fit a spare HDMI cable into the headset to test the cables. You should be able to find a slim HDMI to fit the headset,

Did you try to connect the HDMI cable from the link box to the PC?
