Can I play VR games with "Headset & mouse & keyboard"
I don't want to use them stupid controllers! that come with it!
--- hopefully sometime they'll make gloves and something different!

============ NEW UPDATE =========
CAN , I USE THE HEADSET, AS A HEADTRACKER
==================================
like the "Trackir 5", so if im playing a racing game, or games like "ArmA" I can just move my head about, and other games e.t.c that support headtracking.

Motion controllers are lame, where are my gloves? Standing VR with current tech is lame, mostly because teleporting around is a stupid game mechanic invented to shoehorn "standing space" VR into games that are not designed for it.

Give me the original game control scheme with VR headset support and you have my money.

RIP every PC gamer that sucks at touch typing for games like Elite: Dangerous BTW. Get good or GTFO. :steammocking:

No need for keyboard in ED, Hotas and Voice attack do the job perfectly.

so you can't use keyboard and mouse with vr headset?

You can, but it depends on what games you play.

Imagine playing fps games with VR headset for looking around freely, but being able to aim your weapon (+ crosshair) with a gaming mouse, GODLIKE!

I own an Oculus Rift and a Quest 2 (for reference)

Every time I want to put the headset on, I change my mind after a few minutes since I don't like the controls from controllers.

I can play shooters in vr with controllers only while standing still and can't stand the teleportation means of moving around. Just makes me very dizzy right away.

I play other games as well, like board games and strategy games in vr. Those I can't stand too long with controllers. Just makes me annoyed.

The convenience of a mouse for games is not to be underestimated. I never liked consoles for the same reason. Why make a pc without a mouse and keyboard is beyond me. I know I look foolish every time I try to type anything with controllers.

I also do work in VR, especially for meetings and "think tanking". Keyboard and mouse are required and very useful in that regard. I would change jobs if I had to stand 8 hours in VR everyday, typing with controllers instead. (I have nightmares just thinking about it)

There are newer models of keyboard and mouse that can be tracked by vr headsets nowadays. I would recommend them for those like me who prefers them over VR controllers.

I wish you all a happy new year and may the games keep coming for us all!

The controllers are obnoxious and not multiperson friendly, not everyone can stand up and move about, not everyone can hold there hands in the air for multiple lengths.

Some people may have certain disabilities, that bind them to keyboard and mouse, way way more...
Right now as it seems, VR headsets aren't multi user friendly then...

This post is kinda obnoxious.

Look...I sympathise if you are impared in someway. It's not nice but not every product can be made with people with disabilites in mind. Most VR games are built with the whole concept of "virtual reality" in mind. You look around, you move around and you use your hands. We dont use mice and keyboards in reality so why would we do it in "virtual" reality?

So people saying they maybe have a handicap are kinda obnoxious to you?

Came across thread as I was searching for more mouse and keyboard games. What DS said still holds true 6 years later. My absolute best VR experience was Subnautica. Why? because mouse and keyboard are second nature to me as a gamer, and thus I forgot about them. Where as every time I try roomscale, I feel like I am tethererd, half blind, and worried I will kill a dog or a cat in real life. You will never be able to match the quick movements of AWSD/mouse with wonkey VR controllers. I realize this fact somehow offends people who have the space to do a full VR room. But in an already niche market where precious few of us have large empty places at home to play, or are frankly tired at the end of the day and want to relax...we end up trying a VR game, getting tired, or annoyed and just don';t play it again. Where as Subnautica in VR I could get lost in for 5-6 hours no issue. The best part is it's easier to develop. They added VR to subnautica as an after thought had they really had time they would have ruined it with roomscale crap too...it's what devs do for some reason, they do stuff cause it's the new thing and because they can, and then when customers don't like it they blame the customer and tell us the customer doesn't know what he wants etc.. I want to sit down and enjoy my game, and use the format I have used since quake....while looking around in VR. it's not complicated...and i know MANY MANY players who say the same thing. There's a reason Nintendo shifted from a Wii to the Switch......turns out people don't want to jump around when they relax.

Yes, I read the first post and I am glad that after 6 years, I can read some reasonable points of view. Controllers suck in computer games, whether VR or not. Perception and action don't have to be tangled. And position encoding is more direct and sustainable immersion for me than console controllers that encode rate of change of position (or angle). I would like the immersion of perception but still keep the computer's degree of freedom and amplification of mouse position encoding mapping thumb (trackball) or limited arms set of joints proprioception to full amplitude. This has always been the deal before the console controller regression, as if our body we tank turret to move.

Disclaimer. I am assuming controllers to be like consoles. The cost of VR is so high, that I never ever tried. But I contemplate learning some sailing with VR regatta but only intellectually. To get the perception of it, I would be fine with keyboard and trackball to mind project body moverments.

Well, mass marketting something flexible seems to be a bad business model.. so we all need to assimilate to the console-touch-screen-one button-one feature-one app holy grail with no customization to maintain. Exponential return per dev head per hour inverstment.

Ok, now more seriously, as in wanting to get informed instead of letting exasperation steam out. When Vive cosmos elite and other very expensive kits talk about controllers, are those like the older WII ones where spatial position was encoded as spatial positoin not as console controllers where the handle position is encoded into the speed of change of position? (as then one could concieve the mouse to be such a controller as well), and keyboard to be buttons. I think the clunk comes from that mapping of "position" to motion speed. an arm moving per the speed indicated by the angle displacemnt of the transducer. A tank turret motion.
