Would an AMD RX 580 be good for this?
I currently have a R9 380 and when I did the calibration it said my video may not run it well. I want to upgrade and get a Vive. Considering how high GPU prices are now I was thinking of going for a RX 580. Any other suggestions would be helpful. I only buy AMD so no Nvidia suggestions please.

I've seen that it can run alot of very demanding vr games much better than alot of other cards.
I'd compare the required specs of the vive and games to the specs of the 580 to get an idea of performance on the games you'd like to play.

If you only buy AMD then you really can't expect great results for VR

Buy what you can afford, but don't limit yourself to a brand just because of loyalty, buy because you get best results

An RX 580 is capable but falls on the low end of the VR card spectrum. As such, you'll be able to run all titles but you may have issues on more intensive titles (and as such wont be recommed by the devs...but it will work).

I do know of people running Fallout 4 VR on the RX 580 so you should be fine if it's all you can go to but I would honestly suggest you buy a better card if only for the fact you'll future proof yourself with VR a bit more. More demanding titles are in the pipeline and should be here within the year.

I will say this though..sticking to AMD is silly. Buy whats best for what you want. Right now Nvidia is ahead when it comes to VR and will be for some time.

Given the Vive Pro is about to drop, buying an average GPU seems a little redundant

Hail fellow AMD brother!

You could try checking local computer stores to see if they have anything.

I used to VR on a R9 390. Some games ran fine, others not so much. After upgrading to a Vega 56 everything is so much smoother.

If I were you, I would hold out till you can find a reasonably priced Vega.

I paid $500 for mine and even then I felt I was getting ripped off. Now you're telling me they go for $1k?!

This crypto currency nonsense has got to stop.

Truth. I could make a profit selling my graphics card I bought 1.5 years ago. That just feels ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up.

If the GTX 970 can run VR games perfectly, then the RX 580 can for sure. You kids need to do some research and get your facts straight. I have an i7, and a GTX 970, and work in IT... I would know.

It shouldn't matter to you since you can't afford it most likely. Maybe you should dance on cam to more AC/DC and shake those man t1tties around. Your little video went viral, everyone knows now. I'll be getting the Vive Pro when it drops though since I make more money than you, your family and every fast food restaurant that you stuff your fat face with, combined.
