Valve launch their headset in a week or so.

After that all bets are off but if you're a gamer it's probably not going to be worth buying a Vive as HTC's partnership with Valve is cooling off (their next headset is not based on Valves tech) and they seem more interested in business customers and their own storefront (Viveport).
I am hopeful that when the Steam Index comes out, some months after the HTC Vive might drop in price for those that want to get into the VR games!
