There are 2 solutions (both worked for me) if you want to use the mic on your senhisers.
1) Run a cable to the headset for the mic. This can be done surprisingly neatly if you do it right and is what I do.
First off you need 2 3.5 male to female extensions cables that are pretty cheap. One at 1m the other at about 4.5m
Plug the shorter extension cable into your 3.5 mic port on your PC and attach the tape the other end to your link box (this keeps the break out feature availbe in a worse case senario). Then attach the longer 3.5 extnsion cable to the 3 in 1 with cable ties with the female end connexted at the Vive end. Plug the male end into the new socket you've created next to the break out box.
Adjust Steam VR settings to recognise your headphones mic.
Voila..you can now use your headphones to their full advantage.
2) Aquire the Vive USB extension cable. Purchase a USB to dual 3.5 adaper. Plug in headphone and adjust settings in SteamVR.
In case 1, if you're headphones have all 3 left/right/mic on the one jack you'll need to spilt it back to 2 signals.
In case 2, you'll need to buy an approriate USB splitter with a single left/right/mic port the one adapter.
I still dont have mine hooked up becuase I am waiting for the hardware to mount the base units on light poles. It should be here soon though. I havent tested the sennhiesers on the VIve then. i am a bit worried they wont get loud enough, they are 50 ohms. The old zeros were 150 ohm though and I saw many reports those needed a decent amp to drive. These are 50 ohm, but that is still a bit more than most headphones. I tested them running off of my soundblaster card and they sound great on that.
I wonder if the Vive has some kind of built in amp on it for the audio?
I hope it is able to drive them, otherwise Ill have to return them. I like the sound on them when playing them through the soundblaster. Just not sure how it is going to be through the Vive.
Do you have Sennheisers that are 50 ohm?
Ive seen guys on here with rooms as big as 20x20 and 30x20 and they say the light houses track just fine..I am hoping that is the case. Id like a big play area.
