Vive Freezes
So, this is one hell of a problem, sorry for the wall of text.

Recently my Vive started freezing at random times during play. The screen itself displayed in the lenses is frozen and the mirror on my monitor (after my Vive freezes) still moves and tracks but at a very low framerate.
I've tried switching to a miniDP -> DP cable but that caused it to track fine on the mirror, but the lens were completely black, switching back to HDMI solved this but still freezes.

(I also saw a very odd issue where any game would be very jittery/low-framerate and loading screens would pop up every few seconds for only a second than go back. This correlates with how the vives audio in windows playback devices would rapidly enable and disable itself over and over, but bypassing the linkbox seems to have fixed this issue, so i'm led to believe I have a faulty linkbox, but thats a different issue since I still get freezes after bypassing the linkbox)

I've tried everything including:
-Reinstall/go through vive initial setup
-Reinstall SteamVR
-Reinstall USB drivers
-Bypass linkbox
-Change Display cables
-Disable SLI
-Try a different game (It happens on anything, even at the dashboard and home)

My Computer Specs:
i5-6600k @ 4.5Ghz
Two GTX 1080s in SLI
16GB of RAM @ 3200mhz

I'm out of the warranty window, and i'd rather not pay a hefty repair fee. I'm thinking of buying a new 3-in-1 cable and seeing if that helps anything. Is there anyone that has a potential solution or that has experienced the same thing?

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I'm in the same boat here 5 months later. I've tried everything I can think of and all that I can find on the web. Still, after about 2 minutes of game play, the damned Vive freezes (video). The game is still clearly playing, but the headset is not there. I've even gone so far as to reinstall Windows twice and tried several versions of the nVidia display driver. No joy.

Computer specs:
i7-8700K @ 3.7GHz
16GB RAM
2 x GTX1080ti in SLI

Thanks,
Dave

Turning on Asynchronus Reprojection fixed the issue for me. Hope it helps.

This is gone now. Valve updated to a new system called "motion smoothing". If you go into seetings on SteamVr on your desktop it's under video.
