HTC Vive

Finally got my Bluetooth working on my Vive. Here is what I did.
Steam VR Bluetooth Fix for Windows 10 (might work on Windows 7 as well) for the VIVE.

1) Go into device manager on your OS and make sure all Bluetooth Devices are all removed. If it's using Windows for Bluetooth it's not going to work. Some motherboards may need the bluetooth interface disabled in the BIOS settings.
2) Start Steam VR software.
3) Click on SteamVR drop down menu and select settings.
4) Click on install Bluetooth driver. Finish the installation.
5) Go to device manager and your Bluetooth Devices should only show
"BCM20703 Bluetooth 4.1 USB Device"
6) Reboot your PC
7) Start Steam VR software
8) Click on SteamVR drop down menu and select settings. Click on "Enable Bluetooth communication" and "Put Base Station in Standby mode when VR is not in use."
9) Pull out power from base stations and then re-connect power.
10) Click on SteamVR drop down menu and select devices "Reboot Vive headset"

You can either try to test right away or do another reboot just to get the OS clean.

Now your base stations and everything should shutdown when VR is not in use. They should start up once the Steam VR software starts. You may get some messages for things not working when starting Steam VR because it takes a few moments for the base stations to either shutdown or start back up.

Note: When the base stations are up they will show green and orange LEDs on them. When they go to sleep it will should show just one green light and no longer be able to hear them.

Should be good to go. This frustraited me for a long time but it's working for me now.

I've been searching for a couple months for the right fix and this is what I figured out.

This page should be removed, it's not the right procedure anymore in december 2019.
Can you advise what the right procedure is then please, or perhaps provide a link as I am having the same issues described here. Thanks

I'm having the same issue and I can't see the comment that you are quoting. Did you solve this?

I didn't get a reply as to what the right procedure was I'm afraid, but in my case a Windows update had recently been installed which I think caused a few issues. I'm afraid I didn't do anything in particular. It just started working the next day (after a restart and a further Windows update). Prior to that, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Steam VR. It's possible any one of those things contributed to it starting to work again, but I'm afraid I couldn't say what exactly. Sorry I can't give you any clear steps. I know how frustrating it is when things inexplicably stop working. Good Luck

For anyone looking for a new answer to this as the settings for the bluetooth have changed.
Turn on steam VR, click the three lines for the draw down menu, then go to the devices option, then go to bluetooth settings, it will say bluetooth not linked and install bluetooth drivers, from there you can click install and it should get rid of the BCM720903 drivers missing from the device manager section of windows for you guys.

Instead of saying "Bluetooth not linked" mine just says "Bluetooth not available" and there is no option to install Bluetooth drivers. I have no errors showing up in Device Manager and Bluetooth is enabled and working fine for Windows. It is only SteamVR that appears to have a problem.

I did not get the 'Install Driver' option in SteamVR until the Bluetooth device was seen in Device Manager with the Exclamation Mark. Removing it from Device Manager as the original post suggests will make it not visible to SteamVR. Once I installed the Bluetooth driver, everything looked good in Device Manager, no reboots.

The solution to all of this is to ditch the link box and go with the wireless adapter. Doesn't need the linkbox to be plugged in at all when in use. Just the lighthouses. Never tried the power management thing since I just unplug the lighthouses when I'm done with them. I found a 20K powerbank with 18W power delivery for like 40$ and 2 other 10K 18W banks for 20$. With a 20K bank you can make it past 4.5 hours with 40% to go. Tried this the other night. Only bad thing is I need bluetooth earbuds thatll last that long now xD

I'm having a similar issue. After uninstalling the drivers, SteamVR prompts me to reinstall them, so I do, but after it successfully installs the Bluetooth drivers, it fails to connect and gives a "Bluetooth Error." I've tried all the steps it provides (check connections, reset link box, restart SteamVR) and it keeps saying that the Bluetooth connection has failed. At this point, the problem has been ongoing for several months.

Old thread, but then again it has been revived before and this is still first found when searching

"Install Bluetooth driver" button is missing in settings. Any new method to fix this?

Drivers should be in your Steam / SteamVR resource folder, typically:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\tools\lighthouse\bin\win64\ vivebtdriver.exe or vivebtdriver_win10.exe

Thanks SO MUCH for this. I couldn't for the life of me find out where the drivers could be found. Internet searches found nothing concrete. I'm surprised these drivers weren't already installed when I set everything up. I have bluetooth already on my motherboard and the vive worked the other night. So i'm assuming the link box was using the bluetooth drivers already installed??? anyway, thanks a lot!
