Assuming that you're not intending on spending a dime (at least not yet) the best scrolls for a beginner are: Shidokan (Alchemist), Muay Thai, Kungfu (Striker), Shaolin. TBH there are no good free ExoCores that a beginner has easy access too. An ExoCore like Cannon Barrel would be good for doing adventure mode but not much more.

Drop some cash and get the nine tails or thunderblades.
As for scroll it doesn't really matter what you use unless you're zoning in on 1:1s.

I recommend kingpin as a scroll. You'll need a lot of practice if you are going to use it well.
