i think its important to support the Devs who are actually working on new things trying new concepts an ideas.
except negative reviews are generally people who have little play time, or didn't bother to learn the game before making them.(generally speaking not just for oriental.)
i find that if you're going to relay on reviews its good to read the positive and the negatives , ignore the ones that are purely negative, and the ones that are purely positive. look for reviews that are detailed gives you a general idea of the game play. and isn't just someone ranting , or raving about the game. then compare the positive an negative reviews so you can sort out the true statements from the biased ones.
not really like TW a bit, IF YOU WANT tw THIS IS NOT IT....more civish
You don't micro armies in OE and you don't make a single unit for 300 years like in civ.. I was on board OE at day one.. I watched lp's; mostly of Havok, and saw the pros n cons and liked the game, the theme and the direction.. Even with the iffy combat n other bugs like trade routes... Learned to deal and adjust.. NOw it's been many months since that time but I haven't had time to get back into it since I'm crushing skulls as vikings in Northgard but.. If you're into Orient ol time China empires, posting 'sell me' is dumb, watch utube, twitch and go from there..
My dumb gf asked what's so great about back door once, so I tried to 'sell her'.. I said, you gonna feel a little pressure at first but then It'll feel great.. Now she texts me 'I want Howard to visit the back door' yes, that the nickname she gave..as I said she's a dumbas
Game is more focused on single time period than Civ but less than Total War. It put's huge emphasis on macromanagment and seems kinda rough at first. The deeper rabbit hole you go, the more suprise you encounter and with time it all starts to "click in" into perfect sense. Being the same but yet so different is this game selling point for me. If you are tired of TW or Civ formula and want something fresh in this convention then I would advice getting Oriental Empire.
Personally I don't like advertising games to people which I don't know well. I always feel like they just want others to take responsibility for their choice. So if you can't decide then wait (more playthroughs on YT or maybe some demo/free weekend far in the future) or get something other (there is plenty of games on steam). Because in the end of the game if you don't like that game then nobody will be able to change your feeling towards it.
Peace
