Option for 144hz refresh rate but still 100fps lock?
Oh damn all these trading threads over here :D

Anyway I have 144hz display and I first selected automatic refresh rate from start menu. That one locked me 75fps and I started to think that can't be right as this game worked more than fantastic on my older machine so I changed it manually to 144hz. Whats odd about it that it then locks 100fps and even lowering graphic settings and disabling vsync doesn't get it past that.

Game works smooth enough but why is there 144hz option if game doesn't go past 100fps? :wizard:

PS. If frozenbyte actually checks these forums: Thanks for SBS 3D. I could test 3D effect with my TV and it was awesome but wizard is pain in the ass with 360 controller.

There's a build in 100 FPS cap that can't be disabled within menus. You need to open options.txt, find line that says
setOption(trine2Module, "FPSCapEnabled", true)
and change true to false (if there's no such line, just add it). Options.txt is located in
%appdata%\Trine2
(you may just copypaste that to explorer's address bar.

Option wasn't there so I created it right under only other Trine2Module value and also tried adding at the end of file with couple enter hits. Opening Trine 2 overwrites any config changes for me. Making it read-only does keep setting in there but game still runs only 100fps even with lowest settings and vsync off. I haven't done any changes for game in nvidia control panel either. Weird how game looks decent even on lowest settings :p

Are you running Steam Windows version or some other? Is it up to date? It shouldn't overwrite options.txt unless you change something in launcher (you can try launching the game directly via Trine2.exe in game's directory too) and even if it did, the option shouldn't disappear. If it does, the version you have doesn't recognize the option.

Regular Windows Steam version of the game, v2.00 + Complete story on right corner of menu. Starting directly with trine2_32bit.exe has same effect. I have checked files with steam and everythings fine. *Steam*\Trine2\config\readme_info.txt reads "Trine 2 also uses Steam Cloud." and I had these kind of problems with cloud before so I disabled it and tried again - still no dice..

Unfortunately I don't currently have access to a computer that could run the game at > 100 FPS. As far as I can see, FPSCapEnabled option sometimes gets reset to true, but other than that, it should work. Of course, other FPS limiting options (FramerateLimit, TargetSmooth30FPS) must be set to appropriate values (0 and false) too and if you are not 100 % sure about refresh rate the game chooses, you should try running without vsync.

OK I'm dumb myself for not checking. It's not "trine2Module" it's "gameBaseApplicationModule" and there's already FPSCapEnabled with "true" value. That may also be why it was removed by game all the time...
Anyway now working smoothly 144fps. Thanks for help :)
