Failed to initialize hardware accelerated D3D device.
This is an unrecoverable error and will cause the application to exit"

Could you please give me a solution?

Thanks

We haven't managed to reproduce this at our office, but with quick search it seems that this is happening with other games too. Mostly the issue has been solved by selecting correct resolution for the game. You can do this from the Trine 2's launcher or manually by editing the game's options.txt located at
    %Appdata%/Trine2
which you can just paste the path to your explorer and you should find it. Then just open the options.txt file and look for the following lines
    setOption(renderingModule, "ScreenWidth", 1024) setOption(renderingModule, "ScreenHeight", 768)
and change the numbers to fit your screen resolution. Does this make a difference?

If that doesn't seem to help, try to restart your computer (if you didn't already) and try to launch the game again after this.

If the game still doesn't seem to work, here is something you could also try.
  1. Try editing other options from the game's launcher. For example you could try to switch 3D setting on try to start the game and then setting it back off when starting the game again.
  2. Try to launch the game as an administrator (in Windows: \Steam\SteamApps\common\Trine 2\trine2_32bit.exe )
  3. Try to launch the .exe in compatibility mode (e.g. Win 7 / Vista / XP SP3).
  4. Update your graphics card drivers and DirectX.
  5. Try to verify the game cache in Steam (right click on Trine 2 in Steam Library, then click on properties and choose the local files tab and the button to verify integrity of game cache should be there).
I hope this was helpful.

If the game still doesn't work, could you tell what operating system you're using and your other system specifications?

Let me know how it goes! Cheers!

Are you having the same issue? Did you try the workarounds above?

With more information we'll gladly help you also. :)
