Trine 2 Editor Release
We are now officially releasing the Trine Editors on Steam for Windows. We also patched some minor gameplay issues. You can find the changelogs from the game's installation files, as well as from the Editor Beta thread.

Some of you have already gotten a chance to try the editors through the Steam Beta, but now they are out for everyone to try! We have released two separate editors that each come bundled with their respective game; Trine Enchanted Edition and Trine 2. Even though the Editors look quite similar, they do have some differences - so if you have questions, please remember to specify which editor you are using. :)

The Editors may take a while to learn how to use, so they might not be for everyone - but do give them a try and see if you are up for it! The Editors are very diverse tools that allow you to edit existing maps, create whole new maps and share your creations with others through the Steam Workshop. We're really excited to see what you guys can come up with!

Check out the "How to Get Started" section below for useful tips and links on how to help you get going. :) We'll also be happy to answer editor-related questions; you can email those to our Support,[www.frozenbyte.com] post your questions to our blog[www.frozenbyte.com] or in this thread.

One last note: since the Editors are now officially released, it's recommended that those who were participating in the Beta now opt out of it to ensure they'll get all the latest updates. This is easy to do by right-clicking the games in your Steam Library, choosing Properties and navigating to the BETAS tab. The option to opt out of beta programs should be available in the drop-down menu. Remember to do this for both games.

To celebrate the official release of the editors for Trine Enchanted Edition and Trine 2, both games are free on Steam this weekend 16th-19th of October. The games are freely available for everyone to install and play through their Steam Library for the duration of this weekend - so remember to tell all your friends who've always wanted to try the Trine games, but have not done so yet! Since we are now officially releasing the Trine Editors for Windows, you'll get to try them for free as well. :)

The games are also available for purchase for a juicy sale, 80% off until Monday 20th!

Both Trine games support both local and online co-op for up to three people, so gather your friends and have fun with Trine!
NOTE: Trine 2: Complete Story is available for Windows, Mac and Linux and has full local and online co-op support. Trine Enchanted Edition is currently only available for Windows (Mac and Linux versions are being developed), so the Mac version of Trine does not support online co-op (but does have a local co-op option!) and the Linux version of Trine is not yet available through Steam.

Frozenbyte Editors: How to Get Started
Please read before trying out the editors!

  • Note: Even though the editors look similar, there are actually two separate editors that do have some differences; Trine Enchanted Edition Editor (which is the more advanced of these two) comes bundled with Trine, while the Trine 2 editor comes bundled with... well you guessed it, Trine 2. :) When asking questions, please make sure to specify which editor you are using (or post in the correct thread. You can find the Trine Enchanted Edition Editor Discussion through this link.

When the game was updating, I expected a free new release DLC.

I already own the game but, is this editor just a temporary thing for now and will cost money, later on?

The editor is a permanent free addion to both Trine and Trine 2 :)

This is great news.

This is what is so awesome about PC gaming: The modding opportunities. Legend of Grimrock, Trackmania, now Trine - great games on their own, but with the modding tools, they get tons of new content from the community, ensuring their longevity.

Can't wait to get my hands on this :-)

On trying to launch editor_initialize.exe I get "editor.exe - Application Error The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application." Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit GTX 480. Same thing if I double-click on just the editor.exe. Game runs fine.

Hi,

Open Trine 2 local game files and navigate to folder: mod/editor/bin

Try to install packages manually and see what the installers says (post here what they say like you have already installed those packages or you have newer version etc.).

It might be that the installation has failed for the distributable packages or you have already some other packages installed which doesn't work with our editor.

Not in it's current form - the editor is way too complex and Windows dependant. We'd have to completely remake/simplify it, and that's very unlikely.

dotNetFx40_Full_setup: "Same or higher version of .NET Framework 4 has already been installed on this computer." I have Framework 4.5 SDK, Framework 4.5.1 and a few others installed. Any way to keep these and still launch the editor or do I need to revert?

Does the editor work on achievements? I'm not very technical but I might be willing to try and finally fix the Catch This! achievement so that the requirement for unlocking it actually matches the description. I've lost count of how many times I've met the stated requirement for it of killing an enemy with an airborne object tossed with the Knight's charge.

I'm aware others have unlocked it but obviously, considering how random it is, it needs to be fixed. So I'll be giving it a go if it's possible.

We're still looking into this, but unfortunately we're not sure what could be causing this. In the meanwhile, have you tried re-installing the editor? We experienced one issue similar to this one, though we never got a report of the error message that was received. In that case, reinstalling the editor worked (the user actually reinstalled the whole game).

Modifying the achievements is done by editing the code - editing them with just the editor is likely not possible (or if it was, it would be very hard) and it's not really recommended.

The Catch This! can be one of the trickiest achievements to get. The description can be a bit confusing, and many people don't necessarily understand that the achievement requires the object to be clearly airborne before charging into it for it to work - just killing an enemy with a charge does not usually pop the achievement ("usually" because in some cases the achievement can be gained this way as well, as the charge can actually push it twice, so that it becomes airborne before the second push - but this is rare).

Possibly the easiest way to get this achievement is to use the Wizard to levitate an object high in the air - then quickly switch to the Knight and charge towards the object so that it kills the enemy. This requires some timing, especially since many of the enemies aren't happy to just stay still and wait, but it is definitely possible. While this can be done alone, it could be easier to have a friend levitate the object so that you don't have to change characters before charging. Note that it's possible that this won't work if the killed enemy is frozen or captured in Monster Prison, so it's recommended this achievement is tried without handicapping the enemies. You can watch this video for an example.

If you're still having difficulties with the achievement, please contact us by email ( support[at]frozenbyte[dot]com ) and we can look into this. :)
