Anyway, Thanks.
[EDIT] I should clarify that I'm running Windows 8.1, I have verified the game integrity, and I have attempted to launch trine2_32bit.exe directly with no results. No error message, the game just fails to load.
"Steam Error
Failed to start game (unknown error)."
Really nice patch. I was in the middle of the game, now I can not complete it.
Fixes were so small that we didn't list them. Just forgot to add this line (now added):
- added Russian localization for last 7 levels (Goblin Menace DLC levels)
Hi,
I'm sorry if your game broke due to update. What platform are you running Trine 2 (Windows/Linux/Mac OS X)?
Could you please open Trine 2 properties in Steam and go to LOCAL FILES tab and press BROWSE LOCAL FILES button. Now look for the actual Trine 2 exe (trine2_32bit.exe if you are running on Windows). Launch the actual exe (not the launcher) and see if you get any errors on screen. Please write the errors here if you see any.
Could you also re-start your Steam and verify game integrity from Trine 2 Steam properties (LOCAL FILES tab).
Releasing a patch to the players is always a challenge since there are quite many unique computers out there and on some computers new issues may rise after the patch.
Trine 2 have been working good until today when I updated the game. When I launch the game, I got the error that "Controller 0 was disconnected" and my keyboard and my mouse is not functioning at all in the game. I've tried reinstalling it and reboot my computer but nothing works. I've also verified the integrity through Steam but that doesn't work either. The platform I am running is Windows 7 64bit.
Thanks in advance

i got the same problem here, just like Feck who r cant run the game and pops out a tip says:"Failed to start game (unknown error)"
im already done the methods that u posted above ~
restart steam and verify, it saids doesnt have any1 nid to redownload....
and i actually located that EXE file and tried to launch it manually, and i got a error message.
"trine2_32bit.exe is not a valid Win32 Application"
does some solutions out there that could help us?
Same error as the people above me.
"Steam Error
Failed to start game (unknown error)."
I did all the Steam recommended things to fix it, but as always, it did absolutely nothing.
Running XP Pro SP3. I also tried running .exe and the launcher directly from the folder, but I'm getting the "... .exe is not a valid Win32 application" error.
All you whiners, if your game is in any way messed after patch you should:
1. visit frozenbyte faq about game: http://trine2.com/help/faq/
2. if none of above applies to your problem try to remove file "options.txt" (you can find its location in faq)
3. verify game cache file integrity via steam
4. if still didn't help uninstall the game, remove its folder from steamapps/common/ folder and options.txt file
5. also check if you have all windows updates installed (control panel/windows update), drivers are up to date and check if this stupid antivirus is not blocking/removing trine 2 executables
6. If none of above helps just post your problem in thread on steam and describe it without hatred to one of the best developers i have ever seen.
First, start your brains, if they fail then you can whine all night.
I've tried to launch the game without the laucher, directly on Trine 2 folder, and I got the error "trine2_32bit.exe is not a valid Win32 Application".
I also verified the integrity of game cache but it didn't work.
What worked for me it's to put the game on beta mode "old_v200_b1 - Old v2.00 build 1". Now it's working fine again.
