You mentioned that you have changed the resolution, but have tried to play the game in windowed mode? You can launch the game in windowed mode from the launcher.
If this does not make any difference, could you tell me more about your setup, what is your operating system, graphics card model, processor, amount of RAM etc.
Let me know how it went. :)
Window 10
8.00GB RAM
AMD FX(tm)-6100 Six-Core Processor
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550Ti
Above are lists of setup.
I hope It can help you.
plus) I just found something weird. When I tried cache check about 10min ago, It mentioned 'One file has failed verification and will be retried.' then something downloaded from steam. but It has still same problem.
With a quick googling it seems that your setup is better that the minimum requirements. However, Trine 2 can be surprisingly demanding on your graphic card. Is there any difference between the resolutions, or does the game freeze just as quickly on all resolutions?
Do you have any devices plugged in that might cause this?
I notice that you said you have updated your drivers, have you also updated PhysX? Also sometimes other players have had to uninstall PhysX and then install it again for the game to work. You can find the latest version of PhysX through this link[www.nvidia.com]
Are you running any other programs in the background? Just in case I recommend you to close these before launching the game. It's not uncommon that antivirus or other security programs sometimes interfere with any game's files, so please check this isn't the case with Trine 2. You could just in case add Steam and the game to your security program's exceptions.
Please also see you don't have any other programs open that could interfere with the game, for example overlay programs such as Raptr or Xfire.
Unfortunately I'm out of ideas at this point. My coworker will be back on Monday, so I can ask if she has anything to add to this conversation.
Please keep in mind that if you want to take advantage of Steam's refund policy, you have to do it within 14 days of purchase and before playing the game for 2 hours.
Sorry for the inconvenience! :)
still not working on my desktop. anyway Im really happy with playing Trine2!
Thanks to care my problem!

I also have this problem, did you find a fix yet?
UPD: So, i solved a problem by removing xbox inupt setting from the game folder.
Disable Minidump
You could also try to disable the minidump feature for the game, as it has caused trouble with other Steam games. Here is how to do this:
Remember to include the minus sign there as well. Also if this workaround doesn't work, I recommend undoing it.
Let me know if you have any questions or just how it goes. Cheers!
