Combined co-op
Hello,

Me and my friends almost finished Trine 4, and will be starting Trine 2 soon.
Got a question about coop. The way we played Trine 4 was me hosting the game, and then inviting second person, third person was joining with a gamepad from that second person PC.
So we combined online and local co-op. Can I achieve the same thing here? And how would I start the game to do it? Should I just start the game and they join from within a game or should I invite them to the lobby first? Or should they host the game and invite me?

Yes, this is possible in Trine 2 as well. There are a couple of ways you can do this. When you're starting a game for the first time, I recommend doing it from the Multiplayer menu as you can more easily adjust the game's settings there. It doesn't matter who hosts, either player can add local players.

Here's how to get started via the Multiplayer menu:

Host: Go to Multiplayer > Host a Private Game > set password (remember to share this with the other players). After this you'll be taken to a settings screen where you can set the online session's settings, for example choose the difficulty.

Player 2: Go to Multiplayer > Join an Online Game > Search with Password and type in the password you set earlier. After this the game browser will refresh (this might take a few moments so don't worry if it doesn't refresh immediately) and you should be able to find the right session. Click it to join and click Accept. Player 2 will now also see the settings screen.

You can now add the 3rd player as a local player from Add Local Player on the settings screen - this can be done at the host's end or the other player's end, both options work the same. Connect the 3rd player's controller, then select Add Local Player at the settings screen and check that the players have the correct control configurations (you can change these from the dropdown menus next to the player names). After you're done just select Start Game at the host's end and you're ready to go!

And here's how to do this directly from an on-going game:

Local players: the 3rd player can join during an on-going game by pressing the Start button on their controller (on some controllers this is the button with three horizontal lines).

Online players: You can invite online players during an on-going game by clicking shift+tab and going to your friends list. Right click the friend you want to invite and select Invite to Lobby under the Trine 2 header.
