How do you "Continue" in Arcade?

This might be a stupid question, but I can't seem to find an answer to it. Once I lose in the Arcade, I'm presented with the standard arcade machine "Contine? 9, 8, 7..." screen, but nothing I press seems to cause the game to continue. I know it's the "start" button on a gamepad, but I'm playing on a keyboard. Is there some non-rebindable key I need to press? Enter just makes the countdown count faster.
