X360 controller d-pad is one of the worst for fighting games, only DualShock 2-3 d-pads or bad 3rd party controller d-pads are worse.
For me it's Arcade stick ->good keyboard-> Sega Saturn pad (and similar controllers for modern systems) -> Sega Genesis pad -> DS4 ->X360 -> unplayable 3rd party cheap controllers. At least for Capcom/SNK/ArcSys 2d fighters.
Sony did a really good job on DS4 d-pad. No more blisters, 100% success on special moves and combos (using L/R triggers in originally 6 button games like SF etc. isn't that great for me though, Guilty Gear/BlazBlue/KOF is a different story)
the ♥♥♥♥? controller is far from bad. a lot of pros use pads.
I can't play a fighting game without a joystick.
I Can't place "special moves" with a joypad !
I's a question precision.. With a joypad, I'm cramped rapidly .. :-(
Best advise : try to play with a joypad and a joystick.. See for yourself, what's really "kicking" for you.
