I started with Zero also. He too is pretty fun for a beginner, but you can get really advanced with him as you get better. You'll especially want to learn how to use his lightning loops.
Dante is rather complicated for beginners because his moveset is crazy large, so I'd rather hold him off for now. This isn't recommended, but you could set him as your anchor without any experience with him and use his Jam Session assist, which is one of the best assists in the game.
