I see no mention of ssse3 (not sse3!) there. You should be seeing the same crash as I do.
Easiest way should be to run Steam from a terminal window and just leave that open. That said, I grabbed relevant bits from /proc – command line, value of LD_LIBRARY_PATH – and was able to start it that way. I don't recall seeing anything useful (presumably, it's doing nothing with SIGILL), and I've not looked for any relevant command-line switches.
Right now, seems best to wait for bug fixes.
I've just downloaded the game so I assume I have the latest version.
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (64 bit)
AMD Phenom(tm) 8650 Triple-Core Processor × 3 (2 GB RAM)
GeForce 9400 GT/PCIe/SSE2
nVidia official 340.58 driver
Thank you!
(Also, no need to reboot. Kernel upgrades, some kernel bugs and some crashes involving the graphics hardware need that, yes, but a game which fails to start normally won't.)
This is what happens when I don't read directions. Thanks!
Thanks!

* Linux 3.17.2 (64 bit)
* GTX 660 TI, nvidia-343.22
With a little luck we should be able to patch the Linux beta tomorrow with following changes:
- Game should run on wider variety of CPUs
- Fullscreen should work better with multi-monitor setups*
- TargetSmooth30FPS defaults to false
- Improved mouse support
- Minor optimizations
* There is still an issue with detecting on which display the game will launch on, which can cause issues if the displays have different resolutions.
We're also looking in to the graphical glitches mentioned here, but it is unlikely that they'll make to the next build.
Thank you for all the feedback (and patience), it has been very helpful for us!

We're looking into the issues mentioned here at the moment. Meanwhile, here are few of the most common issues and solutions for them / questions about them.
Black Screen On Start-up
There's an issue with the Mac build that can cause the game to have a black screen when you try to start it. We are looking into this. Meanwhile, fortunately the workaround for this is simple: just command+tab twice to get the game working.
Sorry to hear about the performance issue. Does your Macbook meet the game's system requirements? You can check those at the Trine Enchanted Edition Store Page.
You mentioned you're running the game on Very Low settings, but did you also try changing other graphics settings, such as anti-aliasing or resolution? If not, I suggest you try those.
If you feel that your Mac meets the system requirements and are still experiencing these issues, could you give us detailed information about your setting (OS, video card, processor, etc)?
Game Doesn't Launch / Crashes On Start-up
If the game does not launch, there are a few possible solutions for this.
Workaround for Multiple Monitors and Custom Resolutions
Unfortunately there are currently some issues when playing the game on fullscreen while using multiple monitors. We are looking into this at the moment!
Meanwhile, you could try to edit the options.txt located at ~/.frozenbyte/Trine1/options.txt and make the following changes:
Graphic Glitches & Issues
If you encounter graphics issues, please first try to verify your game files: right-click Trine in your Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → “Verify integrity...”
If that does not help, please tell us detailed information about your issue. Some of you have already posted screenshots, which has been helpful (thanks!) - but in addition to that, we'd like to know if you have encountered these issues repeatedly, or only once. Do they always occur in the same, exact places (and if so, where), at random places throughout the place or constantly during the whole game? Please also give us detailed information about your setup (graphics card, drivers, distro).
As always, we appreciate feedback, so please let us know if you have questions or are still encountering issues or experience new ones. :)
Changelog below. Note that you can also always find the changelog from the game's installation folder:

However, there are some issues with the shadows and lighting:

The shadows aren't smooth and as a result there is also noticeable flickering.
Further (at least in the Wizard screenshots), specular highlights are missing, as are the moon, stars and bloom/blur in the background.
Compare this with the official screenshot from the store page:

Vertical sync: Off
Graphics detail level: Very High

I don't get these glitches with the original Trine port or with Trine 2 on the same system:

I wasn't aware of any beta stuff. I just saw trine appear on linux side and clicked install. After enabling the beta, nothing changed. It still downloads 0 bytes and claims that it's ready. Removing local content and re-downloading doesn't help. Verifying says that everything is ok. ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Trine is empty.
