Could send us your save file in case it would tell us something? You can send it to us by email to Support [at] Frozenbyte [dot] com. Please link this thread to your message so we know it's you. This will hopefully help us to look into this. Here is how to find the save files:
The save files are located in the following folder.
If you only have used one Steam user on your computer, there is only one folder in the userdata folder, but in case there is many here is an example of how to find out your ACCOUNT ID number.
The newest version of your save slot should be enough, but you can just send the whole content of the folder. Please also tell at which save slot you were playing, if you have used more than one. The save file is probably best to send before you try to fix this further.
Also, have you noticed anything else that would be strange in the game? You can try to compare to some screenshots or just tell if anything comes to your mind.
Could you also tell what is your operating system and other system specifications (like graphics card, amount of RAM etc)? This information will help us to look into this.
Firstly to fix this, you could try to verify the game cache for the game in case the problem is with the game's files. Have you tried this? Here are instructions for how to do it:
Right-click Trine in your Steam Library ➝ select Properties ➝ choose the LOCAL FILES tab ➝ click the button to "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE..."
Were all of the files verified? You could also try to update your PhysX, in case that would help. Best would be to uninstall it and then install the newest version. If you already have the newest version you could try to reinstall it. You can find the newest PhysX version through here.[www.nvidia.com]
If above doesn't help, you could also try to reinstall the game.
Seems like this message turned out to be quite long. I hope it was okay to read.
Let me know how it goes! Cheers!
I'm just going to try those steps you suggested, will let you know if it works.
Edit: one file failed to validate and will be reacquired.
Edit 2: After that, I resumed the game and was back in the boss room and the boss was moving again! He froze again twice more during the fight but I saved, quit, validated and resumed the game each time which got him moving again. Each time I got the same message that one file had failed to validate. If this happens again I might try the PhysX or even reinstalling the game (question: would I lose my progress?) but for now I'm just happy to be able to continue. Thanks!
Reinstalling PhysX doesn't effect your save games. Reinstalling the game shouldn't either, as the save games are stored in a different folder than the game. Though you can take a back up copy of the folder I mentioned earlier (which includes your saves) to be sure. :)
If you try them, let me know how it goes.
I hope you can have fun playing. Cheers! :)
To be honest I find it difficult to believe you can't reproduce it, as it happens simply all the times: every time I encountered a giant skeleton it froze after some attacks
Did you manae to look into the save game and fix the bug?
The one in the castle is particularly nasty, because also restarting from the previous check point won't reset the monster, and I hate the idea to do the whole level again...
I hope the earlier tips helped you to continue, but you can also mail us for help at Support[at]Frozenbyte[dot]com. I think we could at least try to make you a save file to get past this.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but thank you for your understanding.
Nasty bug though
Oh no, sorry to hear you had to give up on the game. Unfortunately this is a rare bug that we haven't managed to reproduce in our play tests and as such we haven't been able to find a fix for it, either. :(
What bugs did you encounter in Trine 2? I'll gladly help to see if there's anything we can do about them.
