Skeleton bosses keep freezing/breaking
I'm currently playing Forsaken Dungeons, but I also had the same issue on the previous level with a big skeleton (Wolvercote Catacombs?).

Partway through the fight, the boss will just freeze and stop moving. I will be able to jump on the boss and hit it but won't do any damage. The doors will still be locked so I can't progress the game. This has happened several times now, and I've tried reloading checkpoint, restarting the level and quitting the game.

When I had the same issue on the earlier level, restarting the game fixed it, but this time it hasn't helped.

One time I did manage to defeat the boss before it froze but then I died without hitting the next checkpoint and respawned before the boss. The door to the boss room was closed and didn't open even if I pulled the lever again, so I couldn't progress and had to restart, again. I'm guessing this is a related issue to do with boss events not working correctly for me (otherwise it could just be an oversight in game design, but should probably be fixed either way).

Any ideas as to what could be going on here or what I could do to fix/avoid it?

Sorry to hear that you have run into such a difficult bug. We have heard some users reporting something like this before, but haven't managed to reproduce it at our office. :(

Could send us your save file in case it would tell us something? You can send it to us by email to Support [at] Frozenbyte [dot] com. Please link this thread to your message so we know it's you. This will hopefully help us to look into this. Here is how to find the save files:

The save files are located in the following folder.
    ...\Steam\userdata\[ACCOUNT ID]\35700\remote

If you only have used one Steam user on your computer, there is only one folder in the userdata folder, but in case there is many here is an example of how to find out your ACCOUNT ID number.
    1. Go to http://steamdb.info/calculator/
    2. Sign in through Steam (or write in your profile URL/SteamID, which you can find from your profile page in Steam)
    3. Press the "You are currently logged in as 7656119...." to set that as your Steam ID.
    4. Press the "Get disappointed in your life" button
    5. You'll now see a list of data about your steam account, including the ACCOUNT ID in the upper right corner. This will be the name of the folder that includes your account's save files.

The newest version of your save slot should be enough, but you can just send the whole content of the folder. Please also tell at which save slot you were playing, if you have used more than one. The save file is probably best to send before you try to fix this further.

Also, have you noticed anything else that would be strange in the game? You can try to compare to some screenshots or just tell if anything comes to your mind.

Could you also tell what is your operating system and other system specifications (like graphics card, amount of RAM etc)? This information will help us to look into this.

Firstly to fix this, you could try to verify the game cache for the game in case the problem is with the game's files. Have you tried this? Here are instructions for how to do it:
Right-click Trine in your Steam Library ➝ select Properties ➝ choose the LOCAL FILES tab ➝ click the button to "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE..."
Were all of the files verified?

You could also try to update your PhysX, in case that would help. Best would be to uninstall it and then install the newest version. If you already have the newest version you could try to reinstall it. You can find the newest PhysX version through here.[www.nvidia.com]

If above doesn't help, you could also try to reinstall the game.

Seems like this message turned out to be quite long. I hope it was okay to read.

Let me know how it goes! Cheers!

Thanks for the quick response! I've just sent you an email with subject line "Save file and info for skeleton boss bug". Hope that helps!

I'm just going to try those steps you suggested, will let you know if it works.

Edit: one file failed to validate and will be reacquired.

Edit 2: After that, I resumed the game and was back in the boss room and the boss was moving again! He froze again twice more during the fight but I saved, quit, validated and resumed the game each time which got him moving again. Each time I got the same message that one file had failed to validate. If this happens again I might try the PhysX or even reinstalling the game (question: would I lose my progress?) but for now I'm just happy to be able to continue. Thanks!

Thank you for sending the save files. We'll try to look into them and the issue, but good you can play the game now.

Reinstalling PhysX doesn't effect your save games. Reinstalling the game shouldn't either, as the save games are stored in a different folder than the game. Though you can take a back up copy of the folder I mentioned earlier (which includes your saves) to be sure. :)

If you try them, let me know how it goes.

I hope you can have fun playing. Cheers! :)

I'm hitting the same bug in the same place, playing in two players with my wife.

To be honest I find it difficult to believe you can't reproduce it, as it happens simply all the times: every time I encountered a giant skeleton it froze after some attacks

Did you manae to look into the save game and fix the bug?
The one in the castle is particularly nasty, because also restarting from the previous check point won't reset the monster, and I hate the idea to do the whole level again...

Sorry for the delay, and unfortunately we haven't managed to find a fix for this. This really isn't happening to many players. :(

I hope the earlier tips helped you to continue, but you can also mail us for help at Support[at]Frozenbyte[dot]com. I think we could at least try to make you a save file to get past this.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but thank you for your understanding.

There are more than one bosses frozen, second one belongs to 7th chapter. restarting level isn't getting well this time, we lost one day progress and give up to continue. jumped Trine 2 but 2 bugs are enough to make us disappointed. I wished those bugs were fixed in all these years.

Oh no, sorry to hear you had to give up on the game. Unfortunately this is a rare bug that we haven't managed to reproduce in our play tests and as such we haven't been able to find a fix for it, either. :(

What bugs did you encounter in Trine 2? I'll gladly help to see if there's anything we can do about them.

we played the level all the way again and the damn boss frozen at the middle of the fight. too much effort to reach a buggy end. disappointment. btw, we're completed Trine 2 but 3 and 4 looks too different in a bad way.
