I am actually not sure why it's built this way, but I can try asking around for the answer if you'd like. However I'll note that levitating yourself generally doesn't really improve the game as every puzzle can be solved without that as well.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but let me know if you have any questions! :)
Also interesting note, two wizards cannot simultaneously levitate each other, even with levitation set to all.
Unfortunately no player levitation in Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince.
