Common Issues and Their Solutions
Common issues and how to work around them:

  1. Sound Crackling on Windows 8
Run in compatibility mode as Windows 7.
Click this link for instructions on how to run compatibility.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/older-programs-compatible-version-windows

  2. Sound Crackling for other reasons
    Close any other unneeded programs.
Keep your sound card at its default setting or at 24bit 48000 Hz
Control panel > Hardware and Sounds > Manage audio devices > Right-click on your default speakers and click "Properties" > Advance Tab > Change Default Format to 24 bit 48000 hz and save.

  3. Transparent walls
It is not a feature of the game, it is because your graphics card failed
using 3D surfaces. This feature is only used in small portions of the game. Use
a better non-integrated graphics card or try to ignore it.
Restart your PC, that solves the problem, most times.

  4. Weird/ Mismatched textures
DO NOT TRANSFER YOUR SAVE OVER!
Do not remove the game's .exe file from the folder it shared with the
DATA folder. The game needs its textures to work properly.

  5. 3D Mode failed
    I don't know yet.

  6. Failed to load ""
The game cannot access its textures.
Make sure the DATA folder is still in the same directory as the game.

Please Note: Steam Overlay is currently buggy works in 2D rooms and not 3D rooms. This is why it only works in certain rooms.

We learned that there isn't an actual fix for the Steam Overlay problem.

Mushroom Steve Apr 25, 2015 @ 11:27am

They're default was already 24bit 48000hz, so now I really don't know ._.

Try running as administrator.

Still there, I think my computer just doesn't like it ._.

none of these work for my issue, which is the steam overlay keeps vanishing once I click "continue" or "new game" on the title screen. For example:
If I tried running as admin, the overlay vanishes completely
if I try running it on a lower compatibility mode or running it on a higher one or the same or don't even bother to check it, i get the same result of the steam overlay vanishing once I click "continue" or "new game" on the title screen, nothing is changed.
The rest of the solutions doesn't do anything for my issue.

We sent out a game update today that disables Steam Overlay. Please update your game and check to see if this issue continues.

What is your issue exactly, anyway? Steam Overlay disappearing?
