How do you open dark chests?

I have level 3 ax, level 4 greatsword, and a gun and cannot deal enough damage to open the dark chests. Is there a certain level you need to be or a certain item to open them? No matter how fast I attack they heal too fast.

Try allocating all your feathers to damage, so you easily gain 90% more damage, that may help. With dark chests, you probably mean those blood chests with meat on them.

Also for certain weapons spam jumping attacks and then when out of stamina use abilities to deal damage while gaining stamina back.

As a wizard you can kinda cheese it, get max energy on it by doing jump attacks, then use fire orb twice to do the explosion, this sets it on fire, then do jump attacks to get enough energy to do it a third time. This killed it for me.

Seting it on fire helps, since it helps cancel out it's healing.
