"Video not available. Cannot find 'vids:IV50' decompressor" FIX
This was tested on windows 10 and fixed the error for "Video not available. Cannot find 'vids:IV50' decompressor"

Go to: http://www.cucusoft.com/codec.asp

Download the "Codinstl" which has a file type of "IV50 videos" and install it. This should get you past that error. Good luck with the other ones!

That actually works, thank you very much! (Although I'm unfortunately having the same problem as Drakan... oh well, one thing at a time)
This got the intro video to play but I too have Drakan's problem.
This file got me past the intro video but the game force closed after that. Found this on another post and it worked flawlessly (credit goes to BulletBye for this fix)

Play SWGB in Windows 10 without 3rd party patch
Worked for me:

Copy file "winmm.dll" from "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" folder to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\STAR WARS - Galactic Battlegrounds Saga\Game".

Rename the existing win32.dll in the Game folder to win32_old.dll
Rename the winmm.dll to win32.dll

Start the game with a shortcut to battlegrounds_x1.exe
You can also right click, select properties and change the compatibility mode to Windows XP SP2 if still having problems.

A shame @Steam for such a release :-/ Fix?

This worked for me:

1. open a 'command prompt' using a right-click, select, 'Run as Administrator'
2. type: cd C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (32bit users can skip this step) - press enter
3. regsvr32 ir50_32.dll - press enter

might have to be combined with pipkinn's answer
@Bandwidth Sorceror: thank you so much, its worked
really appreciate it.
I come from the future to thank you so much for this link. I am trying to play the original Resident Evil 2 PC port made in 1998 and had an issue with cutscenes not running video, only audio. I randomly found this thread, downloaded this and it worked. Hope people in the future can find this thread as well.
