So GameRanger will let me host a game, got my friend to join, but when I tried to launch I get a win32.dll missing error as the game can't launch from the copied executable since it does not know where to point to it.
I did manage to get around this by hosting the game and my friend joining, then going back to change the file path in GameRanger to the correct file path. I got the game to launch and so did my friend's however for him it just got stuck on the setting up multiplayer game screen (in the game) and then it just closed after a minute and never connected.
I read that people had better luck using Voobly to play this game on multiplayer so I downloaded it and was successful eventually.
The installation/setup was a little tricky, when I connected on the client (same process for my friend) and connected to the Clone Campaigns server, the client seemed to shut down and try to re-install, but that was just to install like a client connection app, on top of the main app, went through this process and successfully connected to the server but said it couldn't detect my installation. It asked if I wanted to try the diagnostics manager, I said yes, but it said it was unavailable.
The next step was to restart the Voobly app, said installation not detected, ran diagnostics again, this time it worked, detected a missing registry and then was able to automatically fix it, then I rescanned and it said everything was good. On to step 3.
I tried to host a game and it said there were connection issues. I restarted Voobly again, tried to host again and this time it worked. I had to go through all the same steps with my friend's computer and when the game finally launched we were able to get into a proper multiplayer game together so hopefully these steps help anyone else that might be having issues.
