virus on steam version of game?

So I bought the game late last year, and just got around to installing it to play. When I booted the game up, My mcafee stuff quarantined a file from the game and now it looks like I can't play it.

That was the trojan that was quarantined.

Any thoughts?

well then how does it explain the file problem tho. my comp has been really weird since downloading the game. in fact ive been trying to run a scan to see what was going on. the scan would never start. I just uninstalled the game and now my scan is working. Is it really just mcafee software can't handle that file?

and as an aside what do you recommend for antivirus/malware software? ive tried a bunch of stuff and theyve all been crap. mcafee seemed serviceable, tho after this incident, first time in 3 years ive had a problem, maybe its not good if it can get shutdown by a file from a 20 year old game.

McAfee shows a false equivalent in the games files, that is, a file that isn't a virus. McAfee quarantines it anyway. There's no virus in the game files. I remember having this issue with games that used GameSpy etc, stuff like Battlefield 1942. Antivirus would quarantine game files, break the game and themselves. The antivirus client is the issue, not the game files.
In any case, you should get another antivirus. McAfee sucks ass. Even the guy who made it hates it.

AVG also flags "player.exe" as virus. In some cases.

In any case player.exe is just the video player which you don't need.

Oddly, AVG's decided to flag the Steam executable. I'll restore it later, but what's even odder is that it hasn't flagged the identical GOG executable.
