Multiplayer?

Can anyone with the steam version help? I currently have the game in a disc format and know that there is a multiplayer mode, however it's only LAN. It says on the steam store page it says there is multiplayer, yet i'm not sure if this refering to the LAN multiplayer, or if they've put in an online mode (I.e. just play with friends over the internet, not random people)?

I've also been wondering this. I'd gladly buy it over again if it means I get to play with people again.

i think it just use the same as on disc so multiplayer is more local multiplayer there are some games uses multiplayer but only have local

It's not LAN multiplayer. After you host the game you have to give your ip to the other player. I've already tried with a friend from another city and it works great. Same goes for the disc version.

PS: If that doesn't work for you, try using GameRanger. That works 100%. If you still need help, add me.

ACTUALLY, its not Lan. The multiplayer was designed to work thru serial direct connection but was updated in its last patch to support IPX.
But as a result, the MP is VERY laggy, if your ping times are high (anything higher then 50 ms is actually quite unplayable unless you like map updates running at 5 fps. The reason being the host keeps maintaining a frame-by-frame syncronization thats not optimized, even for the UDP is uses to stream data.)
But as such, I would recommend Direct IP AT ALL TIMES, any VPN adds unecessary lag to a MP thats laggy as is.
