Let's say there was a planned "Locomotion II"...
Okay, just wishful thinking here. What if Chris Sawyer came out and said "I'm going to start developing Locomotion II". What would be your wish list for the sequel to Locomotion?

Mine would be:

1. Ability to buy or sell tracks, trains, and other things owned by your company (from Transport Tycoon).

2. Ability to build a yard or garage to help maintain your vehicles.

Id rather it be a nowadays Transport Tycoon but Remastered into a new game with all the complexity of OTTD

Keep the graphics the same for nostalgia, but instead have more vehicles, especially ones after the 21st century, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bigger maps.

I actually like the idea of keeping the 2004 graphics.

1. Improved path finding. I've even had trains get lost on routes that I thought were pretty straight-forward.

2. Cities building their roads more intelligently. I've gotten used to redesigning the road layout of cities to prevent craziness like 2 lane roads being built parallel to each other for no reason, or would-be intersections failing because one of the roads is a half-step higher than the other.

3. Path signals. Just a small efficiency and robustness improvement for trains.

4. More vehicles, especially with North American train locomotives. We have a 2-4-2 but no 4-4-0? What about the streamlined Hudson that was on the original Locomotion box art? Why does the Pacific come out in 1935? On that last point, maybe let the earliest start date be before 1900 so that early railroad history doesn't have to be so compressed. We can have horse-drawn carriages for busses and trucks.

5. A way to easily replace vehicles that doesn't require stopping, selling, buying, placing, then starting them one-by-one (I know it'a not as bad for trains because their other cars will usually stay put, but it's a pain for everything else). Once you have enough vehicles, you get to the point where you're spending more time and money replacing them than actually building new stuff.

I recently played Transport Fever 2 which is clearly heavily inspired by both this and TTD and has most of these improvements (but no American Pacific at all?), but the one fatal flaw of not really being much of a game when you come down to it, as in it's basically just a sandbox mode, with no challenges or goals (and forget the Campaign). So I guess my suggestion is, make it TpF2 but actually a game. And probably with the Chris Sawyer isometric view.

Also, this is probably because I played Locomotion before TTD, but I'm not too keen on vehicle depots. TpF2 has them because they know they have to be like the classic, but they seem more like a vestigial appendage than anything since their only use is deploying vehicles you built, and everything else - maintenance, replacing, selling - was streamlined so that those actions can be done without them. Seems to me like you could just place vehicles like you do in Locomotion and do away with depots entirely, since IMHO they were just a middle-man in the way of doing things even back in the olden days of TTD.
