Are the hitboxes early? Am I getting A/V lag?
I feel like I have to hit the notes a little before I hear it. In other words, it looks like when an obstacle comes, the audio comes a tiny bit afterward, so trying to hit obstacles based on the sound ends up hitting them a bit late. Despite that it can't be more than a few frames off, it's a pretty big deal in a rhythm game like this.
If I were playing this on a TV with a console, I'd assume it was obviously an audio/video lag issue, but given that this is played on a PC with a monitor and I'm getting a constant 60 FPS, that doesn't make much sense.
It could even be input lag from my controller throwing me off, but that doesn't make much sense because if make inputs based off the visuals rather than the audio, it plays just fine.
I'm not sure if it's the game misaligning them slightly, actual A/V lag, or just my perception of when sight and sound matches up, but it's a big enough issue to cause me to fail many perfect turns when I'm pretty sure I hit them spot-on.

Other than that, I'm enjoying it so far.

Can I ask what type of controller you're using?

We've already seen latency issues with DS4 controllers sadly. We're looking into fixing it, but if you can use an XInput controller (or map your DS4 as an Xinput using a utility) I think you will see better results for now.

My brother is reporting he's also having to press early to get it to register on time. He's using a keyboard, I'm using an XBox 360 controller.

I'm having the same input lag with an Xbox One controller, wired - being a musician I can hit the button exactly on the downbeat or upbeat, but it always registers in the game late. Very frustrating. It would help if there were settings in game to adjust input timing to match your button presses.

guitar hero / or was it rockband? had a in-game calibrator for input latency. something like that might be useful?

I'm using a regular Dell keyboard, and this happens early in Level 1 (like the first few sections) where the single beat hitbox seems to be earlier than when I actually hear it. But by around the first boss section in Level 1 it is fine.

This is happening a lot for me too. I work professionally as a percussionist so I'd like to think my rhythm is pretty tight, but sometimes the hit boxes are not lining up at all to what I'm hearing. And I think I'm getting a bit of input lag as well, so when I play in time to the beat it's still sounding very late.

I'm using a keyboard on a pc hooked up to a TV, and there's definitely some visual latency too. Are there plans to add a way to configure the audio/visual sync? I'd have thought it was practically mandatory for a rhythm game!

Hoping these issues can be sorted out because I absolutely adore this game and really want to progress further, but I'm finding it hard with things being out of sync/laggy

Pretty much this. I'm no percussionist, but I've been playing IIDX regularly for over a decade, and I'm definitely getting noticeable delay regardless of what I've tried (KB or wired XB1 controller), even on the very beginning of 1-1. If I'm playing purely based off the visuals I need to hit everything a little early, but if I'm playing just off the sound I need to hit everything just slightly late. I'd love for there to be some sort of calibration a la Crypt of the Necrodancer, but at the moment it's pretty tough to progress.

Same thing here. Was using a ps4 controller over usb, no software. Then tried DS4Windows. I'm still on boss of end 1, but things are almost like moving targets as far as when/where presses work.

same problem with xb360 controller as everybody else...that tiny lag kills it....can't even pass level one's boss :( will there be a fix?

What controllers use Xinput? I have a normal wired Xbox 360 controller. Does this use Xinput?

Yes, it should be supported via XInput (it should show up as an XInput controller in the Options > Gameplay) menu.

Note that it is often hard to distinguish between input lag and video lag. And either can ruin the experience. We're working on recommendations on how to minimize them.

Thanks. I'm buying the game! It looks fantastic. Check out Metronomicon. They have some tests in the game to set both your input lag and video lag. Maybe add something like that.
